The journal box 17 at its central zone has the upper portion of its side walls beveled upwardly and inwardly, as shown at 19, on an angle corresponding to the inclination or flare of the pedestal jaws, as a result of which the journal box fits high up into the pedestal jaw member and `thus reduces to a minimum the vertical distance between the axis of rotation of the axle and thepoint of intersection of the neutral axes ot' the tension and compression members.
