TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH POLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 4, 1916.
application filed October 22, 1913. Serial No. 796,638.
Telegraph Poles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to' improvements in telegraph and telephonepoles.
The invention has for its'object to provide for readily stringing the wire and making repairs on a telephone or telegraph line or system or" gaining ready access to the crossarms and their equipment. V
A further object is to carry out these ends in a simple, expeditious, and effective: manner.
The invention consists of certain instrumentalities and features of construction substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings is illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention wherein it will be understood that various changes and modifications may be y-y of Fig. 1. Fig. 4' is a detail perspective view of an anchoring foot-member used in connection with each leg of the tripod-form of pole, which foot-member or anchor has an attaching stud extending into the hollow or tubular leg of the pole or tripod.
In carrying out my invention, I constitute a pole, designated generally as 1, in tripodoutline, of three separate upright hollow or .tubular members 2, 3., 4,the member 4: being equipped with or having passed through it suitably spaced-apart rungs or cross-pieces 5 projecting laterally from each side thereof, thus forming a ladder for the convenient or ready ascent of the same by the lineman in stringing the wires up on the cross-arms, or
rather the insulators thereon, or making repairs thereto. The uprights or members terminate in upper end right-lined or straight flat-portions 6 which are suitably bolted orsecured together, as at 7, the same assuming a T shaped outline as seen in Fig. 3; to the head of the T thereof is suitably bolted, as at 8, the cross-arm 9 bearing the usual insulators 10, said cross-arms being suitably. braced from the pole by means of bars or strips of metal 11, bolted thereto or otherwise, as usual.
The base, or lower, ends of thetripod or pole members are suitably planted or anchored in the ground, a suitable distance below the" surface, said lower 'or base ends having applied thereto ,cast-metal anchoring plates as at 12,.the
same forming feet therefor, a stud or projection 13 extending diagonally upwardly therefrom into the hollow or interior of. the legs of the tripod or pole as seen in Fig. 2, the anchoring member with its stud 13, being more fully shown in Fig. 4:.
This device it is apparent, is characteristic for its simplicity and convenience to the.
lineman in the particulars as above recited as well as providing a substantial pole or support and which is readily erected and with the minimum labor and trouble.
Having thus fully described my invention,
I what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A device of the type described including a tripod-like arrangement of uprights, with upper end right-lined fiat-portions bolted or secured together for the attachment thereto of the cross-arms, said uprights each being hollow or tubular, the upper portions thereof being mashed or pressed together so as to produce said fiat-portions, said fiat-portions being, when bolted together, T-shaped in horizontal section, leaving one side thereof flat for the purpose of providing a smooth surface contacting said cross-arms.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM McFADDEN.
