EXTENSION-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 5, 1914. Serial No. 870.327
lle it known that-I, Finn. \V. t'-icirm.1-/.. a citizen" of. the United States. residing at \Vatei town. iii-the county of Jefferson and State ofi isc0nsin,- have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension- -'lahles. of which the following is a specification. reference being had to the accompany. ing drawing, forming a part thereof.
This invention relates more particularly to extension tables having single central pedestals and equalizing, devices whereby the end sections of the top are-caused to move equally and simultaneously in opposite directions, enabling one person at c'ither end of a table to open and close the same.
It'also relates to slides of the class shown and described in United States Letters Patent No. 626,747.; dated June 13. 1890.
The main ohjec.ts'of'.-the invention are to prevent binding and sticking of the bars. especially when subjectedto load or incorporated in tables .of the kind above mentioned having equalizing devices and sup; ported-hysingle-inseparable central pedestals, and generally to simplify and improvct theconstructiorizind facilitate the operation of slides and tables ofthc-class above men.- tioned.
It consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of parts as hereinafter particularly described and pointed out in the,
claims.
In the. accompanying-drawing like. char acters designate thesame parts in the several figures.
Figure l is a vertical cross section on the line 11, Figs. 2 and 4, of two adjoining bars ofa slide embodying the invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a portion ofone of the bar as viewed from the left relative to Fig. I: Fig. 3 a longitudinal section on the line 3 Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is an inverted plan. view on a reduced scale. of an extension table, showing, the table closed and slide bars and equalizing devices as applied thereto, according to the invention. (:lupedestal being shown in section; and Fig. 3' is a similar view of one. of the slides and associated parts of the top section, extended. 7
In accordance. with the invention an extension tahle having a single inseparable central supporting pedestal and equalizing The recess ii is of .soi'ueivhat g fa seat forthe convev face "of 4 and lIai-h slide comprises three bars 11. u formed in their ad oining sides, as
shown in l igs. l. 2 and 3. with longitudinal 'T-shaped or undercut grimves b, of well known coustruction. Each haiiis provided at oi'i adjacent to'oue: end with a block c,'.
which is fitted and secureil in the groove 1) and pro ects therefrom laterally into the contracted portion of the groovein the ad-.

The convex face of thewasher not only prevents it from gouging into and mutilati'ng theoverhangiing sides of the groove-with which it em gages, causing it to work smoothly and freely therein, but also. entering the recess" 0. in which it is seated, holds it firmly in place against vertical orlateral displacement. common woodfscrew, as shown; is pref: erahly used to secure the washer to the block cand the bar in'which the block is inserted, and to form the pivot of the roller, but a wire nail or cylindrical pin having a headat one end, might be used.
The middle bar a of each slide isfastened to the cross piece It at the upper end of the pedestal i, as shoivngiin Figs. l 'and 2. 'The other two. bars a, are fastened to the separable top sections and are provided with racks k, meshing with opposite sides of a pinion l pivoted centrally on the middle bar a. Anymovement-of either top section 7' operates-through, the-'s'lide hars (I. a, racks J-lc and pinions l' to produce a like movement lowing claims ofthe-othertop section in the opposite dimet-ion. i v
The anti-friction rollers (l and convex washers 3/ connecting. the bars of BtlCllSlidG with one another i'nsurle perfect freedom of movement oi -the bars' a lengthwise of the stationary middle bars a, thus enabling a single personIwit-hoiit aid and without displacing the pedestal "even if it .is providedr-with casters and stands'on a polished or and arrangement of partsmay he made w thout departure from; the principle and scope of the invention defined in the fol- I claim-i r r 1. In an extension table the combination I, W131 s'lrde liars having indercutgrooves in their adjoininwfaces. of a blOClCSQCHlQd in the groove in osrelia r and pro ecting therefrom loosely into the contracted portion of the groove in the other bar, a roller let into an approximately circular recess in the protruding portion of said block and project ing above and lielow the same, a washer seated in said recess over said roller andadapteil toengage with and Hill in the groove of the adjoining liar. and a pin forming a pivot for the roller-and securing the washer to its seat in said block-Q the washer serving to firmly and centrally support the outer end of the pin and the roller from the liloclciii which the washer is seated and held by the pin.
2. In an extension table thecoinbination with slide liars having undercut grooves in their adjoining faces, of a block' .sreiired in the groove of one liarand projecting there-' from loosely into the contracted .portion of the groove in the other bar. a roller loosely fitting in an ap 'n-oxiinatrlv-circular recess in the prt'itriiding portion of tilt hlock and projecting above and below 'the same, a
washer of greater (llilllKttl than the roller and havinga convex face fitting into said recess, and a-headed pin passing loosel'v through and foriiiinga pivot for the'roller and binding the washer to its sca ton said block, the washer ce iiti'zi .ll v and fi ri ily supporting the outer headed end ofitliepiii and the roller ,f'roiii tlie iiiai'giii'of'the recess in which the washer is seated and held lay the 70 pin. 9 1
