To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT T. PARISEN,
a citizen of the United States, and resident of Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny 5 and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an eflicient burner of simple construction for use in water heaters, ranges and other structures.
One object is to provide for uniform distribution of the gaseous fuel throughout all portions of the burner casing, cap or body as well as for ample and unobstructed supply of secondary air in close proximity to the multiplicity of fuel emitting burner orifices whereby substantially perfect combustion is had. I
A further object is to so construct the improved burner casing, cap or body as to embody the same in a single casting without detracting from its efficiency in any particular.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in top plan of the burner body. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section taken on line 22 of Fig. l, the burner body being shown in position on the mixer tube. Fig. is a sectional plan taken on line 33 of Fig.2. Fig. i is a view in bottom plan of the burner body.
In the embodiment illustrated, the burner body or casing is of disk-like form and comprises the main portion 2, forming an annular interior gaseous fuel chamber. This main portion is formed with integral outwardly projecting radial arms or extensions 3 between which are the vertical passages 4, and at the center of the body is the through vertical opening or passageway 5, passages 4 and 5 thus affording free and unobstructed upward flow of secondary air adjacent to all portions of the gas emitting top face of the burner.

Depending from the under side of the burner body and in unobstructed communication therewith are the hollow channelformmg ribs or webs 7 which converge into the single ring or collar-like gas inlet 8 located in the axial line of and hence concentric with the body. The gas distributing channels 9 are substantially straight from collar 8 to the burner cavity 10 and hence afford direct upward passage for the gaseous mixture. \Vith the channels 9 formed as shown, as distinguished from being curved or bowed, the pocketing of gas therein and the creation of eddy currents is avoided, the delivery being direct and uniform to all portions of the burner body and sustaining a constant outlet flow at each of the apertures 6 with correspondingly uniform and unvarying flame over all portions of the burner top face. Collar 8 may have a slip joint connection with a mixer tube 11 of conventional form to which it may be readily applied and as conveniently removed.
It is further characteristic of the improved burner body that all portions thereof are embodied in a single casting, thereby effecting marked economy in its manufacture and avoiding imperfections incident to misfit, warping or loosening of parts, objections commonly experienced with burner bodies made up of two or more pieces. The positions of collar 8 and the passage-forming ribs 7 are such as to afford ample space between the latter for the secondary air admitting passages 5 at the base of central passage 5.
I claim:
1. A gas burner comprising a disk-like hollow burner body having a central vertical secondary air passage and forming a central body portion providing an annular gaseous fuel chamber and projecting radial body arms'providing radial extension chambers from said annular chamber, said central portion and arms being formed throughout their top surfaces with a multiplicity of gas emitting orifices, said body being formed with spaced webs converging downwardly through said passage and from the under side of said central portion to and forming a single central gas inlet, said webs formed with internal gaseous fuel passages at their lower ends open to said inlet and at their upper ends uniformly spaced around and bpening upwardly through the floor of said annular chamber for the uniform distribution of fuel in said annular and extension chambers. 2. A gas burner comprising a disk-like hollow burner body having gas emitting orifices approximately uniformly distributed throughout its top surface, said body formed with a central vertical air passage and with other vertical air passages uniformly spaced from each other and from said central passage, said air passages being arranged to. ap-
proximately uniformly distribute secondary air o er. the top surface of said body, said body being formed with a central vertical gaseous fuel inlet collar below said central air passage and with uniformly spaced up wardly diverging webs at their lower ends merging into said collar and at their upper ends merging into the bottom of said body, each web forming a gaseous fuel passage from said collar to the interior of said body, for the uniform distribution of gaseous fuel to said orifices, substantially as described.
3. A gas burner comprising a burner body open centrally for the upward passage of secondary air, the body being hollow around said passageway for the distribution'of gas to all portions of the body, the body formed 119131321 1 this patent may. be obtained to;
with a multiplicity of gas emitting orifices, and webs converging downwardly from the under face of the body and at their lower ends uniting to form a single gas inlet beneath said passageway, each of said webs formed with an internal passage open to the burner cavity and to said gas inlet, said body, webs, and inlet being integral.
4. A gas burner comprising a disk-like hollow body providing an annular gaseous fuel cavity, said body having fuel orifices distributed approximatelyuni o y h oug out its top face, said body formed with a central vertical airpassage andwith other vertical air passages uniformly spaced from each other and from said central passage, said air passages being arranged to-approxr mately uniformly distribute secondary air over the. top surface of said body, and means beneath said body for admitting gaseous fuel upwardly into said annular cavity at a plurality of uniformly spaced points, for the uniform distribution of gaseous fuel to said orifices, Substantially as described.
