DEVICE FORIVIOLDING HOLLOW ARTICLES.
guesses;-
Be it known that we, ERASM-US STAHL and \VILHELM .KL'EIX, citizens of the: United 7 States, residing at- Naiugatuck. county of New Haven, State of Connecticut, have invented certain-new and useful Improvements 1n Devices for Molding Hollow Articles, of which the following is a full, clear, and ex act description. 7
@ur' invention relates particularly to cores for molding hollow articles having a small Opening orneck leading to the interior thereof, such as hot-water bottles and snnilar articles made of rubber.
- The ob ect of our invention 1 to provide a core for such articles that an be easily removed through the neck or other small opening without, injuring the articles and ones-that is. simple and easily manipulated for suse in the molding process. I
Fora detailed descript on of one form of our invention, reference may be had to the following specification and to the accompanying drawing forming a part thereof, in Y which: 7 Figure 1 1s a side elevation $19111 improved core and showing a hot wa er bag 1nclosing the same, ,i n slectionaFig. 2 is a plan view of one offthe core sections; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view'of the neck of the bottle showing. the manner of removing the firstsection of the core; Fig. -11: is
a vlongitudinal sectional View of the same;
and Fig. is a sideview of a modification of the core. l
Referring to the drawing, the numerals 1 to inclusive represent the successive sections of the core in the shape of reetangular bars with rounded ends, as 1nd1- cated in Fig. 2. These are connected to gether and with the neck section of the core by a rod 13 passingcentrally through each of the sections and being fastened to the first The rod 13 is also provided at its upper end' with a limiting flange 16 and a suitable finger pin 17.
- Specification of" Letters Iatent. l atgntgd J 13319 2'7 1916, Application filed September 1, 1915; Serial sateen The neck section 11 is provided witha cylindrical portion 1:2 uponwhich the screw- .it is molded.
The core sections are provided with means for keeping the same in register with each other, such as the dowel pins '19.
The outer mold sections are provided with v a recess in which a nipple 20 is formed,
which, when the bottle" is completed, is adapted to contain. a suitable connecting piece to permit'the attaching of a rubber tube so that the bottle may also be used as a pressure reservoir for a fountain syringe. It is obvious that instead of the nipple 20,
the usual tab for the water bottlemay be molded at its lower end.
Fig. 5 shows the core sections with slightly rounded corners which form small ridges on.
the inner surface of the bottle, thereby strengthening the walls thereof and'at the same time obviating any nicking .or uneven wearing of the said corners.- The core is utilized in the her: The sections of the core having been assembled and fastened together by the rod following man- 13, the two halves of the mold-cavity are I lined with suitable calendered sheet stock,
the core inserted Y and the mold sections sition in any well known way. The article.
is then cured'in any suitable manner. When the mold has been removed from the vulcanizer and sufi'iciently cooled, the article.
and its contained core are removed from the mold sections and the rod 13 withdrawn.
This frees the neck section 11 of the core The bag or other article is then slightly stretched until one end 'of the section 10 can enter the ring 18, after which said section 10 may pass through the ring as 1nd1--' cated in Figs. 3 and 4, and tlius entirely removed. 8,-7, etc. are then-removed in a similar manner, after which the article is ready for "trimming and finishing.
- Having thus described this form of our invention, we do not wish to be understood.
as being limited to the details of forms and arrangement'of parts set forth, nor do we The succeeding core sections 9,
15 same together transversely. 1
cles comprlslng, a core made of sectlons .a rranged transthe same mamier; t, L I x What We' claim-and desire ,to protect by Letters Patent is:.
to be ilnderstood asbe in'g to the -manufaoture of water bottles, for Various hcffllow articles having a'small neck or opening may be advantageously manufactured in 1. A mold for hollow articles ,lco mprising, a .core' made of sections arranged trans versely to and adapted to pass through the opening in the article and-looking meansfor holding said seetionstogeth'er centrally, said means being adapted to'pass through said opening to. engage. said sections and lock the 2. A mold forhollow art'i itissoes eversely to and adfijoted' to Pass throiil gh opening in' the *article, hndflocking means adapted to draw said sections togthertfansyersely and operated through,' and located in aline'mentwith; said,opening.-
' '3.'A mold for hollow artioles comprising,
a core including bars, extending; trans- 'versely ,to ;andadapted to pass through the opening in said articles and -a rod extending through said sections and through said opening and having screiwthreaded engagement .withone of said" sections, whereby the lattertre drawnftogether 'mto 'mterlocklng 8t)
