Description
L. A. WALTON.
Improvement in Mosquito Guards for Tables.
Patented Sep. 12,1871.
UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
LUUIUS A. WALTON, OF BYHALIA, MISSISSIPPI, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSE-LF AND DOUGLE MCINTIRE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN AUTOMATIC FANS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,832, dated September 12, 1871.
To all whom 'it may concern: i
Be it known that I, LUoIUs A. WALTON, of Byhalia, in the county of Marshall and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Keeping Ott Flies from Tables, &c.; and I do hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this speciiication..
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a machine for keeping off flies, mosquitos, gnats, &c., from diningtables, sick-beds, infants7 cribs, lounges, or any place from which it is desired to keep them away.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to I which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a longitudinal vertical section of my machine.
Arepresents the frame of my machine, in which is mounted a wheel, B, provided with buckets a, a, on the principle of an overshot water-wheel. G is a trough leading from a hopper, D, to a spout, E, immediately above the wheel. The machine may be run with balls, shot, sand, Quicksilver, water, 85o., as may be desired or convenient. The speed is controlled or regulated by a spring, b, inside the trough C, which spring is operated by a thumbscrew, d, to open or close the space. thereby regulating the amount of shot, sand, &c., to pass through. The material used, after falling into the buckets a a and revolving the wheel, passes into a sack, G, suspended, as shown, in front of and under the wheel. Upon the wheel-shaft is a crank, e, connected by a pitman, H, with a crank-shaft, f, to which one or more fans are suit-ably attached.
This 1n ach-ine, or, rather, the fram e-work thereof, may be constructed in any desired manner so as to stand upon a table or be attached to theV ceiling or any other place where needed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The within-described machine, consisting of one or more fans, wheel B, trough C, hopper D, spout E, crank e, pitman H, and crank-shaft f, all arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing' as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
L. A. WALTON.
Witnesses L. B. KIRK, L. L. WILLIAMS.
