FRIEDRICH MIINZ, 0F STUTTGART, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO EDUARD SCHARRER, OF
CANNSTA'IT, GERMANY.
PRIMARY CURRENT-BREAKER FOR MAGNETO-ELEGTRIC IGNITION DEVICES.
Application filed March 19, 1914, Serial No. 825,912. Renewed November 22,- 1915.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Fiunnnrcn MiiNz, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Stuttgart, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Primary Current-Breakers for Magneto- Electric Ignition devices, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a primary current breaker for magneto electric ignition devices in which a stirrup shaped contact breaking spring is secured by means of a bayonet lock to a contact breaker plate in such a manner that at one hand it is maintained in the locked position by the pressure of the contact breaker and the centrifugal forces produced during the rotary motion, While on the other hand it may be readily unlocked and removed by pressure, owing to the simple locking means.
A very important feature of the device consists in that the axial contact breaking of the contact pieces is produced by a radially directedpressure in such a manner that an eventual play of the rotor shaft does not exert any influence on the contact breaking.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a front view of the contact breaker. Fig. 2 is a vertical axial'section of same.
On the cone of the rotor axis 1 the con-- tact breaking plate 3 is secured by means of a distance sink bolt 2 in such a manner that the bolt 2 which supports the platinum contact piece 4 is insulated from the breaker plate 3 by means of the insulating member 5 while one end of the breaker spring 6 is maintained on the breaker plate 3 by screws 7, 7, by means of the slots 8, 8, the obliquely bent end 9 of the breaker spring 6 projects into the slot 10 provided on the breaker plate 3, where a tapering block 11 slips between the end 9 of the breaker spring 6 and the inclined slot 10. When the breaker plate 3 rotates in the casing 12, the block 11 strikes the stops 13 secured on said casing 12 and, owing to the radially directed pres- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 13, 1916.
Serial No. 62,917.
sure, slips between the oblique slot 10 and the obliquely bent end 9 of the breaker spring 6 so that the platinum contact piece 11 mounted on the breaker spring 6 is withdrawn from the contact piece 4. Due to the pressure of the block 11 upon the spring 9, the loosening of the said spring during the operation of the device is effectively 0bviated. The resilient plates 15 and 16, insulatedly secured on the breaker spring serve for short cireuiting the rotor current,
the spring 15 bearing on the contact piece 1 and forwarding the current through spring 16 to any desired short circuit switch.
Having now fully described my said invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A primary current breaker for magneto ignition devices, comprising a bolt at the end of the rotor shaft, a current breaking plate secured on said bolt, a box surrounding said parts, insulating means between said bolt and said plate, a contact piece at the front end of said bolt, a stirrup shaped spring connected with said plate, a bayonet joint between said spring and said plate, a contact piece on said spring, and facing the contact piece provided on the front end of said bolt, said plate being provided with a slot into which projects the bent end of said sprin a wedge shaped block engaged between said bent end of the spring and the wall of said slot and oppositely disposed cams provided on said box and struck by said block during the rotary motion of the device in order to displace said spring and bring'the contact piece mounted on said spring out of contact with the contact piece produced at the front end. of said bolt.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
