Description

W. F. SHOLL.
Patented June 13, 1916.

WILLIAM F. SHOLL, OF HUBBEIZL', NEBRASKA.
HANGER FOR CLOTHES-LINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 13, 1916.
Application filed. April 24, 1916. Serial No. 93,234.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. SHOLL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hubbell, in the county of Thayer and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers for Clothes-Lines, of which the following 1s a specification.
The present invention has for its object the elimination of this disadvantage without removing the central support.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view with my present invention applied to the hanger. Fig. 2 is a face view of the said support, the
hanger and clothesline being in section.
Fig. 8 is a detail face view of the detachable end of the support. Fig. 4: is a perspective View of said end. Fig. 5 is an end view of the hanger, opened to receive the clothesline.
In the drawings 1 is the line, 2 the hanger sides, 3 are end members one of which is extended to form a hook 4 to engage the line, 5 and 7 are the opposite end members with the cooperating hooks 6 and 8. These parts are all included in the patent above mentioned.
The central support for this hanger comprises an inverted V-shaped frame 9 the apex portion of which is bent to form an eye 10. One end of the support is provided with an eye which engages one side 2 of the hanger. The .opposite end is bent at an angle so that it will lie parallel to the opposite side of the hanger, and is then bent back on itself forming a bow portion, the bow portion being slightly curved inwardly with respect to the hanger, the free end portion 14 extending back in a plane above and parallel to the portion 12.
When the support 9 is brought into proper position, being suspended from the line 1 by a hook 11, the part 12 lies below the side 2 of the hanger and the part 14 above, the said side member resting on the inwardly curved bow portion, which engages the said side member. By'means of this construction a sheet or any large sized cloth can be hung on this side member of the hanger, extending from end to end thereof, and the free end of the support then brought into position, the sheet being caught between the parts 12, 13 and 14 of the attachment or support and the hanger side. A olothespin can then be'placed in position at this point, said pin engaging in its crotch the members 12 and 14, the sheet and the side member 2, thus securing all parts together. On removing the pin the free end of the support 9 can be swung out of the way and the sheet or other article at once removed.
What I claim is 1.. The combination with a hanger attachment for clothes lines, said attachment having side members, a support for said'hanger comprising an inverted V-shaped wire member, one end of which is secured to one side member of the hanger and the opposite end of which is bent to lie in parallel relation to the opposite side member, and means for securing the support to a clothes line.
2. The combination with a clothesline hanger having side members and supporting end members, of an intermediate support therefor comprising a wire member arranged transversely with respect to the hanger and secured to one side of the hanger frame, a hook member carried by the support and adapted to engage a clothesline, the free end of the support being angled and bent back upon itself forming a bow portion, said angled portion being'adapted to lie parallel to the opposite side of the hanger, and the bow portion being curved inwardly with respect to the hanger to receive the said side member.
3. The combination with a hanger ofthe kind described having side members, an inverted V-shaped supporting member, a hook member carried by the apex of the supporting member and adapted to engage a clothesline, one end of the V-shaped member being secured to one side of the hanger, and the opposite end portion being bent at a right angle, thence upwardly and back upon itself, forming a bow portion, the bow portion being bent laterally, the members of said WILLIAM F. SHOLL.
