IMPROVEMENT IN GUTTER-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,556, dated August 29, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. ROGERS, of Rochefort, in the county of Boone and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Gutter-Fastening; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use'the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 represents a vertical transverse section of a gutter secured by my improved fastening. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.

This invention relates to a new apparatus for fastening gutters to the sides of buildings; and has for its object to dispense with the use ofnails or screws, which are at present employed for securing the same. The invention consists in the use of a supporting-bracket and saddle, the former being fastened to the building, the latter fitted around the trough or gutter and slipped uponthe bracket. The gutter is thereby held without being pierced by nails, screws, or other fastening implements, which often rust through and cause it to drop.

which embrace it, as shown. Each saddle isv made of sheet metal or other material, of such shape as to fit around the bottom of the trough, and is in the middle provided with a pendent loop, a. This bracket is made in form of a bar, having a shield, b, at one end, through which the screws or pins holding it to the building are passed. The upper ends of the saddle are connected above the trough by a wire or rod, 0, which prevents the gutter from being blown off the saddles.
By the use of my invention gutters are easily fastened in place and securely held.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The saddles B, provided with the loop a and fitted upon the bracket 0, to constitute a support and fastening for a gutter or eaves-trough, substantially as herein shown and described.
