IMPROVEMENT IN SC-AFFOLDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,553, dated August 29, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN REDIOK, of Butler, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio,
have invented a new and Improved Scaold5.

This invention relates to a new builders scaffold, which is so constructed as to be easily taken apart and conveyed from one buildin g to another, put up in a short time, and constructed at a less cost than the Ordinary scaffold now in use. My invention consists in the improvements in scaffolds, as hereinafter fully described and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
A A in the drawing are the four posts or uprghts of my improved scaifold. They are, on the long sides, connected by braces B B, which are secured by bolts or screws and placed diagonally and crossing each other, as shown. At the ends the scaffold has braces C C, which it into the grooved edges of the uprights and are fastened by means of pins a a. The uprights are grooved throughout their lengths and perforated at short intervals, as shown, so that the braces U can be set higher Or lower, as may be desired. For extending the scaftold vertically .the uprights are spliced, as shown at b b in Fig. l. D D are cross-bars, held in the uprights A by pins c c, at the ends of the scaffold, the pins being put through apertures so that they support, not pass through, the bars D. By means of vertical rods d el., which are shown by dotted lines in Fig. l, the ends of the bars D are connected with jointed levers E, which rest on pins e across the ends of the scaffold. By swinging down the jointed middle portions of the levers E their ends will be elevated to raise the platform. In this manner the same can be elevated by the persons on the platform.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The loosely-supported cross-bars D, vertical rods d, and jointed levers E, when combined with and applied to uprights A, as and for the purpose specified.
