Description

T. ndo'nv. INTERQHANGEABLE HEEL FOR SHOES. APPLICATION FILED NOV. 12, I9I5- ill! WITNESSES: INVENTO- Efa.
Patented May16, 1916.
THOMAS DOODY, OF DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
messes.
Specification of Letters Patent.
INTERCHANGELABLE HEEL FUR SHOES.
Patented May 116. 1916.
Application filed November 12, 1915. Serial No. 61,053.
To all whom it may concern Be itknown that l, THOMAS Down, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth,
in" the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Interchangeable Heels for Shoes, ofwhich the following is aspeciw accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in interchangeable heels for shoes.
The object is to provide a heel of this character of the cheapest possible construcfication, reference being had therein to the tion and one having no cooperating metal parts whatever. 1 Another object is to provide such a heel in which the interchangeable portion is composed of but a single kind of material and having no attached metal parts whatever.
It is well known by those versed in the art, how soon any metal attachments to the interchangeable portion of the heel become more or less loose and unsatisfactory by wear and to overcome such objections is an essential feature of my present invention.
Other objects and advantages of construction will appear in-the further description of the device.
vIn the "accompanying drawings forming part of this application and ,in which like reference characters indicate like parts: Figure 1 is a bottom plan view illustrating a portion of a shoe with the interchangeable portion'of the heel removed. Fig.2 is a vertical sectional View on the line AB, Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the removable portion of the heel.
Referring now to the drawings, 1 represents a portion of a shoe-welt having a relatively low section 2 of the heel permanently fixed thereto and into which is screwed a plurality, preferably 3, round headed screws, having annular shoulders thereupon, and respecting which, 'as that far described, resembles exactly the corresponding proportion of the invention disclosed in iilnited States Patent, No. 1,148,363, dated July 27, 1915 and issued to me, the present invention being a departure from and improvement thereupon.
The interchangeable portion 4 of the heel 18 preferably composed of rubber as is commonly used for such purposes, and has formed in the upper face thereof three holes 555, of a size considerably less in diameter than that of the heads of the screws. The holes 5-55 are so positioned as to properly register with and receive the heads of the screws 3, when the interchangeable portion is applied to the shoe. The holes 555 form the passageways for the heads of the screws into chambers 66-6 which latter are of a size to snugly fit the heads of the screws diametrically so that when fitted therein there will be no lateral or horizontal shifting of the heelwhatever. The
chambers-6 are made somewhat greater in depth than the heads of the screws, so as to provide the latter ample freedom in entering same, when the heel is being applied. The outerrinrof the holes 5 are slightly counter sunk as at 7 to assist in the entering of the screw heads and which latter are slightly rounded upon their outer edges for the same purpose.
From the foregoing it is evident that I have developed an exceedingly simple combination for removably securing'a resilient heel to a shoe.
Having thus described my invention what I clair v new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
i The combination with a shoe having a plurality of adjustable circular shaped protruding members fixed to the sole thereof, of an interchangeable heel -portion composed wholly of rubber and having chambers therein for the reception of the protruding members, circular entrances to the chiam bers of .ess diameter than the chambers forming annular shoulders therein and. annular inclined rims about the circular entrances, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS DOODY.
