Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED SMITH, a subject of Great Britain and residing at Ingleside, Livingstone Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, England, manufacturer, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knitting-Pins and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to knitting pins and hasfor its object to provide a light article constructed in a simple manner and being most effectual.
According to this invention the knitting pin has a tubular body part with a solid acting end or point or with a tubular end, and is preferably provided with a rotatable or rigid enlarged head at the rear.
The invention is described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of a knit-, ting pin constructed according to one form of my invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation of a modified form showing the members disassembled. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of a further modification.
Referring to Fig. 1, the body 1 is made from solid drawn tube in any suitable metal or material. The acting end or point 2 is solid and is provided with a rabbeted shank 3 fitting in the tubular body 1 and thereby brazed to, or pressed in, the tubular body 1. The rear head 4 is fitted in the body l by drilling a hole in the shank 5 which is then gxganded against the sides of the tubular In a modified form shown in Fig. 2, the shanks 3 and 5 are screwed to engage with .screw threads on the interior of the body 1.
With the modified form represented in Fig. 3, the body 1 and acting end 2 are formed in one tubular piece. The rear head 1 is formed With. a stub shank 5 having an annular groove 6 with which engages a suitable projection on the inside of the body 1. The said head may therefore be rotatably or rigidly secured to the body 1.
It is to be understood that any one of the heads may be replaced by one of the others by suitably forming the lower end of the tubular body 1 to receive the particular h; ad. The shank of the head may be brazed'to the tubular body in some cases.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A knitti g needle comprising a tubular body portion, a solid tapered en-d section having a rabbeted portion fitted into one end of the tubular body portion, the said tapered end section being secured into position, and a head portion inserted into the opposite end of the tubular body and secured thereto.
2. A knitting needle comprising a tubular body portion, a solid head portion inserted in one end of the tubular member and a solid tapered end in the opposite end of the tubular portion. v
