PATENT Fldlfi MARY J. STEPHAN, OF NORTONVILLE, KANSAS.
BRIDLE.
Application filed August 8, 1913.
tion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in bridles and more particle larly for an attachment therefor which will temporarily obstruct the vision of 'the 'horse to prevent the same from shying when approaching unusual sights, and further to provide a device which may be operated from the Saddleor the seat of a vehicle to operate the device so that the horse may be controlled when running away.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations, and arrangements of parts to doe hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a front elevation of the de* vice, showing the device in place upon a bridle and in its inoperative position. Fig: 2 is a similar view showing the same in its operative position. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the same. Fig. 4 is an edge view. a
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a bridle of the usual construction and 2 the brow band thereof, and to which the device is attached. I
The device consists of a strip of rubber or elastic webbing 3, to the upper edge of which is fixed short straps 3, the same be Specification of Letters Patent.

ing arranged in pairs adjacent each end of said strip and are adapted to be engaged by the buckles 4- carried by the brow band 2.
To the lower edge of the strip 8 is stitched a strip 4 of leather and to the lower corner of which are secured the lines 5 which pass through the bridle rings 6, and are then passed rearwardly to the rider or to the seat of a vehicle sotha-t the lines may be operated to pull the strip e downwardly and over the eyes of the animal.
Fromthis construction it will be seen that a device of this character has been produced which may be easily and quickly attached to the usual bridle and one which may be easily operated by the driver upon pulling on the lines whereupon the strip 4 will be drawn down over the eyes of the animal and may be held in this position as long as the horse is unruly, and upon releasing the lines 5 the elastic strip 3 will cause the strip i" to move upwardly thus permitting the animal to see.
What is claimed is In combination with a bridle having a brow band, a strip of elastic material do tachably and adjustably secured to the brow band, the said strip being constructed and a1- 'anged so as to extend partially around the head of a horse between the cheek straps of the bridle, a leather strip secured to the lowermost edge of the elastic strip, and a line attached to each lower corner of the last named strip and arranged to draw said leather strip over the eyes of the horse.
In testimony whereof, I aiiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
