TELEPHONE-RECEIVER HEAD-Pinon.
To all to 700m it may 001mm -12 Be it known that 1 James O. BRADLEY, a
citizen. of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York, State of New York, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Telephone-Receiver HeadQPieces; and I. do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as'will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use'the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in telephone receivers, and is particularly directedto the provision of a head piece carrying suitable receiver apparatus for fastening to the head of the operator, and which when removed is adapted to engage with the usual hook of a telephone to hold it down in conventional manner.
It is the object of the present invention to provide such a receiver head piece carrying receiver portions which are adapted to engage over both ears of the wearer, to exclude undesired noises and to provide at the same time a receiver at each ear.
It is further an object to provide such a device which may be readily attached to or detached from a persons head, it being un-- derstood that the; device is particularly adapted to be usedin an oiiice or shop where there usually occurs a great deal of noise, and by various persons who might desire to use the phone without the necessity oi": removing their hats.
It is still further an object to provide such a head piece which is exceedingly simple in structure so as to conducc to lightness and durability in operation, and to permit manu facture at a comparatively low cost.
With the above and other objects and ad vantages in view, the invention resides more particularly in the novel combination, for mation and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings, where similar characters of reference designate the corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved rcceiver head piece. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig.

1, and showing the hinge connection of the receiver carrying arms.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the improved de vice is shown as comprising a cylindrical block 5, which carries a circumscribing rib 6 and is of substantially the shape of the butt end of an ordinary receiver, so as to engage the hook ofthe telephone and properly hold it down when the device is not in use.
Passed transversely through this block is a bar 7 which has its end portions outwardly of the block directed laterally parallel to the axis of the block and adapted to extend therebeyond to form a means for pivotally securing the arms 8 which carry at their free ends receivers 9, this securing means for each arm preferably comprising a pin 10 passed through the bifurcated inner end of the arm and through the adjacent end of said bar. To resiliently urge these arms together to properly hold the receivers to the ears of the person using the device, a bowed leat spring 11 has one, end secured to the inner face of each arm 8 adjacent its pivotal connection, and has its other end secured at 12 to the adjacent end portion of the bar,
tached wires 14: leading to the telephone,
and wires '15 leading to the receiver members 9.-
Thus a comparatively simple device has been provided which may be readily grasped by a person, and attached so as to cover both ears and exclude undesirable noises which might otherwise interfere with proper use of the telephone. The block 5 also serves as a handle, whereby the device may be readily manipulated, and whereby it may be grasped to assist in holding the device to the head.
lVhat is claimed is 1. A telephone receiver head piece comprising a block cylindrical in shape and provided with an-annular rib at one end to engage, a telephone hook, a pair of arms pivotally connected with the other end of the block and resiliently urged together, binding posts carried by the block, receiver members carried by said arms and wires connecting said receiving members and the binding face of each arm adjacent its pivot and to 7 posts. the adjacent end portion of the bar. 10 2. Atelephone receiver headpiece compris- In testimony whereof, I affix my signaing a body block, a bar passed transversely ture, in the presence of tWo Witnesses. through said block and having its ends bent JAMES O. BRADLEY. laterally to extend therepas't, receiver carry- Witnesses: ing arms pivoted to the extremities of said FRANK L. RA'roLIFr, ends and a leaf spring secured to the inner PHILIP F. LEARNER.
