Specification of Letters latentr Patented May 2, 1916.
Application filed. December 31, 1914.. Serial No. 879,947.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH LUDWIG BARTELT, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of Corston Lodge, near Bristol, England gentleman, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is to provide a toy which is capable of furnishing amusement for several children at one time, who may be ranged around it.
The toy comprises a central portion consisting of a board or base with a structure such as a dolls house erected thereon. To the edges of the base are hinged flaps which may be got up to represent gardens and leasure grounds or spaces, entirely open or built on to a greater or less extent. These flaps and any buildings or structures carried thereby are so arranged that the flaps may 7 be folded on their hinges so as to inclose the central structure and make a box.
shown a toy on a rectangular base embodying my invention.
Figure 1. is a perspective view of the toy opened out for use. Fig. 2. is a perspective view of the toy folded up into the shape of a rectangular box. Fig. 3. is an elevation in open position of a folding trestle support for the toy. Fig. 4. shows the trestle folded. Fig. 5. is a plan view of Fig. 3.
a is a base upon which is erected a structure b. This structure can take any suitable form. A flat roofed dwelling with an open shelter built thereon is selected for illustration. 0, cl, 6 and f are four flaps hinged to the edges of the base a leaving angular spaces between them.
The trestle consists of four gate legs 11 hinged together so as to be capable of opening out as seen in Figs. 3 and 5 or of folding as seen in Fig. 4. j are hooks for keeping the legs extended when the trestle is in use, and so arranged that each leg supports a flap.
A folding trestle for supporting the toy is a great convenience owing to the space which such a toyin its various sizes requires for its accommodation. The trestle moreover when set up in position will enable the children to be seated in the angles between the fiaps without interfering with a form the lid of the box which contains the whole toy. When the toy is open the portions gand 7:. form back supports for lean-to sheds or summer houses, or when hinged will form an elongation of the flaps to which they are hinged.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is In the accompanying drawing I have 1. A toy comprising a central base, flaps hinged to the edges of the base in such a manner as to leave angular spaces between the flaps when they are in a horizontal position, a pair of additional flaps hinged to the edges of two of the first mentioned flaps, the whole being adapted to fold up to form a box having the central base as its bottom, the first mentioned flaps as its sides and the last mentioned flaps as its top.
2. A toy comprising a central base, flaps hinged to the edges of the base in such a manner as to leave angular spaces between the flaps when they are in a horizontal position, the whole being supported by a trestle having similar angular spaces between the legs supporting the said flaps.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRIEDRICH LUDWIG BARTEL'I.
