of the ovenwall causedcby heat. It will thus bernoted that should the wall of the oven contract to any great extent and the wall of the oven inay'liave become distorted by heat. It is therefore essential that means be provided whereby the door may be pre sented to the opening of the oven to close; the same regardless of the degree of shrink- 3 age of the oven wall. In the present invention theproper positioning of the door is secured by suspending thesame from a trolley disposed longitudinally of the batteryof ovens. Thus the door being supported independently of the oven may be swung into proper position with respect to the oven regardless of the degree of contraction of the oven wall, the door opening, being bev eled as indicated at a, and the edges ofthe tile of which the door is formed,having a corresponding bevel as at 6 toward their fire faces assuring a snug fit, air being ex cludcd when the loam or mud is placed around the edges of the door. It will be noted by this construction that the door when suspended from the looped terminal 36 of the lever may be moved on the beam 16, the terminal 38 of the lever 33 being held by the hook 39 carried by the door and disposed directly beneath the loop 37. The lever in this manner is supported against swinging movement, the contact of the lower portion of the lever with the hook 39 retaining the looped terminal 36 in engagement with the bail 37 which supports or carries the door frame. It will be noted that the lever is adjusted vertically with respect to the hanger 27, therefore if the door, due to contraction of the door or oven wall which is caused bv the heat of the oven should be out of adiustment with the curved b= raised or lowered to a position where the same may engage the bail 37. In removing the door the trolley is brought to a position where the leier 33 alincs with the bail 37. The lever is then raised, its curved terminal 36 beingplaced' within the bail 37. The lever is thenbrought to a vertical position, the same being fulcrumed'in this movement at th point 40, this movement raising the door out of the door opening. The terminal 38 of the lever is then placed within the prm'ided for by. a separable lockingor latching connection between the two door sections, suitable latches or locks for that purpose being designated by the reference letter L in the drawings.
The many advantages of a trolley mechanism of this character will be clearly apthat when'the beveled door is adjusted to i the beveled opening it requires very little mud or cement sealing'to exclude the air. This is a very important consideration in coke oven doors. Furthermore, by so beveling the edges of the door the center of gravity of the door is thrown inwardly and tends to hold the door closed. To facilitate the opening of such a door it is necessary not only to pull it upwardly but also outwardly, and therefore, itis desirable to locate the trolley forwardly of the door. This provides an important and practical com' bination of features in a coke oven door construction. I
Another feature in carrying out the invention resides in hav ing the door of a horizontally divided type, the same consisting of separate upper and lower mating door sections A and B, and which door sections are adapted to be tem porarily locked together by a suitable latching or fastening means such as the hook devices C shown in the drawings. Accordingly, the present invention also involves the sectional door with means for moving it horizontally, together with means for temporarily locking the sections together, so that by a single means the entire door or only the upper door section may be shifted.

The combination with a coke-oven having a removable door provided with a loop on' its crest and an overhead trolley device having a hanger provided with a terminal eye movable adjacent the said loop, of a lever havlngv an angular S-shapcd portion at one end, the inner bend of the said S-' shaped portion-engaging through the said hanger eye, and the outer bend of the said S-shaped portion being formed with a hook for engagement through the said loop, and interengageable means carried by the other end of the lever and the door.
