IMPROVEMENT IN HORSE HAV-RAKES.

Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,130, dated August 15, 1871.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, MIRON S. HOLMAN and CYRUs S. FARRAR, of Armada, in the county of Macomb and State of Michigan, have invented a new and usefulmprovement in Revolving Horse Hay-Rakes and we do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this speciiication, in which- Figure l is a perspective of our invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the operating parts in top plan. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same in bottom plan. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the scape-wheel or ring.

Like letters refer to like parts in each figure.

The nature of this improvement relates to the construction and operation of arevolvin g horserake, so arranged that it will revolve whenever desired. The invention consists in the devices for holding the rake-head and allowing' the same t0 revolve.

In the accompanying drawing, A represents a rake-head provided with teeth a, made in the usual manner. B is the draw-bar, connected by means of the three knees. Gand suitable straps to the rake-head, at nearly equal distances from cach other, and from the end of the rake-head, and in such a manner that the rake-head vwill 'freely rotate in the strap-'connections as such rakes usually do. D is a handle, secured by suitable straps to the center of the length of the rakehead in the same manner as arethe knees, and the handle projects to the rear. Upon the upper side of this handle is fastened the spring-stop E,'and upon its lower side is similarly secured another spring-stop, F. G is a scape-wheel or ring, rigidly secured to the center of the rakehead; and H is a lug or projection secured to the strap which secures the center knee to the rakehead.

By raising the handle the forward points of the teeth are thrown down, which tends to elevate the draw-bar; this compels the lug H to disengage the point of the lower spring-stop F from the projection b on the outer face of the ring G, when the head will make half arotation, the upper spring-stop E allowing the projection c on the ring to pass under it, when both springstops engage with both projections and hold the rake-head rigidly in position until the operation is repeated. Vhat we claiipas our invention, and desire to secure by Letters 'ilatenn is- The ring Gr provided with projections b c, the springstops E F, and the lug H, all arranged relatively to each other, and in combination with a rake-head A, handle D, and strap, by means of which the knee is secured to the rake-head, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
