To all whom t may concern Be it known that I. Enwann G. Pncn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seymour, county of N ew Haven, State of Connecticut, have invented an Improvcn'ient in Self-Billing' l"ountain-Pens, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object to provide a self-filling fountain pen which'shall be perfectly smooth exteriorly, that is, `without projectionsI of any kind, which shall comprise few parts, all simple and inexpensive to produce, shall provide a positive stop for the pressure bar in both directions of its movement, and which cannot leak should the ink-sac brealnfor the reason that the vent is closed except during the operation of filling.

lVith these and other objects in View, I have devised the` novel .fountain pen which I will now describe, referring to the acconr panying; drawingforming' a part of this specification, and. using; reference characters to indicate the scverai parts. In use the screw plug is locked agaiilst removal lloy engagenient of the projection thereon with the arm.

The operation is as follows: Figs. 1, 3 and 5 show the parts in the operative position. The ink-sac is supposed to be filled with ink and the pressure bar is lying against the side of` the barrel, in which position it is locked hy the engagement of projection 18 on the screw plug' with the arm, the arm beine' forced against the wall of the barrel, as clearly shown in Fig'. 5. To refill, the operator gives the screw plugr something less than a rotation outward, as indicated in Fig. 4. The project-ion upon the screw plug will more past the position shown in Fig. 6 and will pick up the arin and carry it to the position shown in Fig. 7, in which position the arm is again locked between the projection and the wall of the barrel, but at the opposite extremitygof its movement. The inlesac will now he deated by the pressure har,` as shown in 2 and 4. The operator now dips the pen in ink turns the screw plug inward to the position shown in Fig'. i. which relieves the pressure of the har on the iiik-sac, as shown in Figs. l and 3, andthe sac instantly fills with ink.

Having thus described my invention i claim :M

A vfountain pen comprisingla barrel, an ink-sac, a pressqre bar, a rock shaft by which said bar is carried and which is provided with an arm, a sleeve Within the barrel, half-sockets insaid sleeve and barrel which form a bearing for the rock shaft, said halfsocket in the barrel extending beyond the rock shaft t0 permit longitudinal movement of said Shaft in assembling, and a screw plug having a projection toengage the arm and oscillate the rock shaft.

6. A fountain pen comprising a barrel, an ink-sac, a pressure bar, a rock shaft by which said bar is carried, a sleeve within thc barrel, said sleeve and barrel being provided with half-sockets which form a bearingr for the rock shaft, and means for oscillating the rock shaft. y
