war rib DEVICE FOR LATHERING PREPARATORY T0 SHAVING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 25, i916.
Application filed July 27, 1914. Serial No. 853,421.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM A. GATZEN, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Griinwald, near Munich, Kingdom of Bavaria, in the German Empire, have invented a new and useful Device for Lathering Preparatory to Shaving, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a shaving stick and its casing, for lathering the parts of the body to be shaved.
Casings for shaving soap sticks have already been proposed which consisted of a tubular container in which portions of the wall were separated to such an extent that these portions formed springtongues adapted to grip and hold the soap stick in any desired position relative to the casing. Shaving soap stick casings are also known in which the edge or rim of the upper or front end of the tubular casing is rounded to prevent injury to the face of the user. Finally casings for shaving soap sticks are known in which a cover or lid is provided with a shaving brush or other auxiliary means used for lathering.
According to the present invention an annular or socket-like ring of elastic material is provided, embracing the inserted shaving stick.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, by way of example.
Figure 1 shows a construction of the soaping device and Fig. 2 shows a soaping device according to this invention, in combination with a shaving brush.
In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the yielding passage for the shaving stick 8 is formed by a rubber ring 9. The rubber ring is preferably inserted into an annular recess or bead a of the tube a or secured in some other suitable manner. In introducing the shaving stick, the latter is pushed from the rear end of the tube through the rubber ring 9. It is advisable to provide the rubber ring 9 which is bulb-form in cross-section, with a flange 71, which, during the passage of the shaving stick is turned over in the manner illustrated, surrounds the shaving stick with elastic pressure and projects slightly beyond the front edge of the tube a. This projecting portion of the rubber flange 71, forms a soft elastic front boundary of the tube a which, during the putting on of the soap, prevents the hard portions of the holder from coming into contact with the face. Between the spring follower-plate 0 and the bottom of the shaving stick 8 can be lnserted a paper plate at or the like, and it is also advisable to arrange between the shavmg stick and the tube, a layer of paper, for instance a piece of paper 6, paper band or the like, rolled around the shaving stick. The cover f closing the front end of the tube or of the shaving stick, which is placed over the bead a, is preferably provided at the edge with slots or recesses f which insure a certain resiliency and at the same time facilitate access of air to the operative end of the shaving stick. The cross-section, size and other shape, as well as dimensions and material of the tube a (Figs. 1 and 2), as well as the arrangement for shifting the shaving stick in the tube can be any desired. For using the soaping device shown in Fig. 1, the. cover 7 is removed, the portion of the shaving stick 8 projecting beyond the elastic ring 9 h is moistened, and the face is rubbed with the same, or the face is moistened, and then it is merely necessary to rub it lightly with the shaving stick. The elastic ring holds the soap quite firmly, so that it is used up uniformly. It also prevents moisture from getting into the tube and subsequently dissolving the soap. The projecting flange h of the rubber ring 9 prevents, during the rubbing or putting on of the soap, the face from coming into contact with the edge of the tube, so that injury or irritation to the skin by the hard edge of the holder is completely avoided. The advance of the shaving stick through the rubber ring depends on the wear or use of the stick. After use, it is merely necessary to put the cover f back again on the tube a. The soaping device enables the shaving stick to be completely used up, whereupon by inserting a spare shaving stick, the soaping device can be used again in a simple and convenient manner.
According to the construction shown in Fig. 2, the cover 7 closing the tube a or the shaving stick, is further provided with a shaving brush 2' preferably interchangeably secured to the cover f, for instance, by means of an elastic plate 70 carrying the brush bristles and introduced or forced into a suitable recess of the cover f. Any other device suitable for lathering could be used instead of a brush. For closing the brush, in the present case a protective cap m is placed on or otherwise secured to the cover f and also provided, if desired, like the cover f, with slots or perforations m for the adnnssion of air. The cap m, the cover f carrying the brush and the tube a must be dimensioned in such a manner that the cap m can also be placed on the tube a, and the cover 7 on the cap m. In the first case, the cap m forms the closing for the rear end of the tube a, agcd in the second a handle for the brush z ,I claim:
1. A casing adapted for adjustably and interchangeably holding a shaving stick and provided With an annular or socket-like ring of elastic material embracing the inserted shaving stick, said ring being provided With a soft, elastic protective rim extending beyond the front edge of the casing.
2. A casing adapted for adjustably and interchangeably holding a shaving stick and having an annular orsocket-like ring of elastic material embracing the inserted shaving stick, said casing being provided at its forward end With an internal annular groove and said elastic ring being provided at its rear edge With an annular rounded bead fitting in said groove and also with a soft, elastic protective rim extending beyond the front edge of the casing, said elastic ring forming the gripping and holding means for the stick.
3. A lathering device consisting of a casing adapted to receive a shaving stick, a casing cap fitting over one end of the casing and having its outer end provided with a lather Working device, a cap for this lather Working device, this cap fitting onto the outer end of the casing cap, the dimensions of the parts being such that the cap for protecting the lather working device may be fitted into the casing cap and thus be useful as a handle for the lather Working device.
4. A casing for holding a soap stick, a cap for covering the exposed end of the soap stick, said cap being frictionally fitted onto the casing, the part engaging the easing being longitudinally slitted to provide an elastic fit and also ventilating openings for drying the projecting end of the stick.
5. A casing for holding a soap stick, said casing being provided with an annular out- Wardly-extending bead near its exit end, and a cap for covering the exposed end of the soap stick, said cap being frictionally fitted over said head, the part engaging the bead being longitudinally slitted to provide an elastic fit and also ventilating openings for drying the projecting end of the stick.
