This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in methods of treating funked, house-burned or otherwise damaged leaf toiiacco and restoring the same to its natural state and at the same time purifying, bleaching and brightening the leaves. the process being designed for treating tobacco used for either smoking or chewing.
in carrying out my process, the tobacco leaves to be treated are suspended within a suitable steam tight chamber and subjected for a period of approximately thirty minutes to the action of steam admitted to the chamber. The tobacco having been thus moistened by the action of steam is subspecification of Letters Patent.

Having thus described my process. what 3 I claim to be new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s:
The herein described method of treating damaged leaf tobacco and restoring the same to its naturalvst-ate, which consists in 40 suspending the same within a steam-tight receptacle, subjecting the same to the action of steam until it is thoroughly moistened. then subjecting the same to sulfur fumes for a period of from two to eight times that of moistening.
