Be it known that I, HENRY C. CASHON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oktaha, in the county of Muskogee and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating Systems, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in heating systems and has relation more particularly to a system of this general character, especially, designed and adapted for use in connection with incubators or the like; and it is an object ofmy invention to provide a system of this general character having novel and improved means whereby an even temperature within the chamber to be heated is automatically maintained.
The invention consists in the details of construction andin the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved heating systemwvhereby certain important advantages are attained and the de vice is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features, of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claims.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view illustrating a heating system constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a view, partly in top plan and partly in section, of my improved system as herein embodied; Fig. 3 is afragmentary view in perspective illustrating the damper controlling means as herein set forth; and Fig. 1 is a fragmentary sectional view illustrating acertain detail of the lead pipe as herein embodied.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes an incubator or the like of predetermined construction having produced inits top wall adjacent one extremity thereof the openings 2 affording communication within the chamber of the incubator 1 and secured to the end of the incubator 1 remote from the openings 2 is a container 3 adapted to be filled with water Specification of Letters Patent.

and having disposed therethrough at substantially its axial center a flue 4 the lower extremity of which has telescopically engaged therewith the removable conduit or flue 5 which also has its lower extremity telescopically engaged by the chimney 6 of the heating medium 7, herein disclosed as a conventional oil burner. The removable conduit or flue 5 is provided with a laterally disposed and upwardly inclined escape vent 8 in communication with the atmosphere and the passage of the heat through said escape vent 8 and upwardly of the conduit or flue 5 is under control of the damper 9 mounted for swinging movement within the conduit or chamber 5 and engaged therewith at a point above the lower or inner extremity of the escape vent 8 and normally overlying said lower or inner extremity of the vent, as is believed to be clearly shown in the accompanying drawings.
Positioned within the chamber of the incubator 1 at the top thereof and in close proximity to the sides are the pipes 10 divided into two conduits by the longitudinally alined septums 11 and 12, the septum 11 being continued within the longitudinally disposed return pipe 1 1 which discharges within the common pipe 15 in communication with the container 3. Also in communication with the container 3 is the lead pipe 16 divided longitudinally by the septum 17 into conduits whereby the heated water passing from the container 3 travels through each of the conduits alforded by the pipes 10.
Within the chamber of the incubator is positioned a shelf 18 or the like on which is supported a thermostatic wafer or member 19 operatively engaged with one extremity of the rock lever 20, said rock lever extending exteriorlv of the incubator and overlying a side wall of the container 3 and at a point below the top thereof and the outer extremity of said lever is operatively engaged through the medium of the link 21 with an extremity of the rock lever 22 operatively supported by the bracket 23 carried by the container 3 and having its opposite extremity disposed across the flue 4, hereinbefore referred to, and said latter extremity has operatively engaged therewith the rod 24 preferably of light wire which is disposed downwardly through said flue and operatively engaged with the damper 9, hereinbefore referred to, whereby it will be perceived that as the temperature within the chamber of the incubator rises, the damper will be correspondingly elevated so that an increased passage of heat through the escape vent 8 may be permitted and vice versa.
It is a purpose of my invention to provide a means whereby the rock lever 20 is maintained inactive under the influence of the thermostatic wafer 19 until the temperature within the chamber of the incubator has reached a predetermined degree, for instance 103". As herein embodied, I accomplish this result through the medium of the elongated member threaded through the shelf 18 and engaging the under edge of the rock lever 20 in a manner which is believed to be clearly disclosed in the accompanying drawings.
I also find it of advantage to provide means whereby fresh air may be discharged within the chamber of the incubator and,
as herein disclosed, I have extending within the incubator through the end thereof remote from the openings or perforations 2, the air conduits 26 extending exteriorly of the incubator and overlying the sides of the container 3 and having their inner ends closed and provided intermediate their lengths with the openings 27 and also interposed in said conduits are the controlling valves 28, for a purpose which is believed to be self-evident. Disposed over the container 8 is the cap member 29, the base portion thereof being maintained in spaced relation relative to the top of the container 3 through the medium of the blocks 30 carried thereby and adapted to rest upon the top ofthe container 3 and the depending flanges 31 of said cap are adapted to overlie the side walls of the container, and in order that no obstruction may be offered to the cap by the bracket 28 and the coacting rock lever 22, I provide one of said flanges 31 with the open end vertical slot'32 and it is also to be observed that the base of the cap is provided with a restricted opening 33 through which is disposed the rod 24, hereinbefore referred to. The cap 29 serves to retard the escape of the heat after passing through the flues 4 and 5 and thusmaterially increases the efiiciency of the device.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a heating system constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience tion is susceptible of some change and modi-e fication without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice. I claim:
1. A heating system of the class described comprising a container, a heating means coacting therewith, a plurality of conduits, a lead pipe in communication with the container and with the conduit located near the container, and a return pipe in communication with the container and the conduits at a point remote from the container, a co1nmon pipe connected with the return pipe and extending downwardly at an angle and com- Inunicating with the container at a point adjacent the bottom thereof, said return pipe being divided longitudinally into a plurality of conduits.
2. In combination with a hollow member, a container, a cap member for the container, a flue disposed through the container, a heating member coacting with the fiue, a laterally disposed and upwardly inclined vent in communication with the flue, a damper common to the flue and vent for controlling the passage therethrough, a rod operatively engaged with the damper and disposed through the flue and extending upwardly therebeyond, a bracket carried by the container, said cap member having a slot through which the bracket extends, a rock arm supported by the bracket and operatively engaged at one extremity with the upper end of the rod, a rock lever mounted within the hollow member and extending exteriorly thereof, a thermostatic wafer arranged within the casing and connected with the inner extremity of the rock lever, a link member connecting the exterior extremity of the rock lever and the second extremity of the rock arm, and an adjustable member coacting with the rock lever for limiting the movement of the rock lever under the influence of the'contraction of the thermostatic wafer.
