To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN A. NELSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hutchinson, in the county of Reno and State of Kansas, have. invented certain new and useful Improvements in superheating Attachments forLubricators; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention which relates broadly to improvements in lubrication, has for its object to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive attachment for application to various types of lubricators for the pur pose of superheating the oil therein, thereby allowing cheap and heavy grades of oil to be used to advantage.
WVith the foregoing object in view, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction to be hereinafter fully described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawing which constitutes a part of this application and in which,

In specifically describing the construction shown in the drawings above briefly described, similar characters will be placed on corresponding parts throughout the several views and reference will be herein made to the numerous elements by their respective indices. To this end, L designates a .common type of lubricator having an oil reservoir whose bottom is formed with an opening 0 in which a drain plug P is usually threaded. When the improved superheater is applied to the lubricator, however, it is threaded into the opening O, while the plug P is applicable to the lower end of said Thus, no change whatever need be made in the construction of the lubricator in order to adapt the invention thereto.

low internally threaded boss 3 adapted for the-reception of the delivery end of a pipe 4; which is used for supplying steam or the like to the device. The upper end of the body 1 is reduced in size'and externally threaded to provide a nipple 5 for reception in the opening 0, while the lower end of said body is formed with a threaded socket 6 equal in diameter to said opening 0, whereby the drainplug P may bethreaded intosaid socket- The body 1 is formed with a bore 7 having reduced upper and lower ends 8 and 9, said ends being .of the same diameter and opening respectively through the upper end of the nipple 5 and into the socket 6. Passing through the center of the bore 7 is a single tube 10 of equal diameter throughout its length, said tube having its upper and lower ends secured in the upper and lowerreduced ends 8 and 9 of the aforesaid bore. By this construction, the tube 10 constitutes a supplemental heating reservoir for communication with the reservoir of the lubricator, whereas the enlarged body portion of the bore 7 serves as a steam jacket surrounding said supplemental reservoir to retain the same-at a high temperature.
From the foregoing, it will be obvious that an extremely simple device has been provided for the attainment of the desired end, the article being composed only of two easily constructed parts. In spite of its extreme simplicity, however, an efficient device has been produced which will fulfil a long felt need in the art to which it relates. Obviously, the use of the improved superheater will allow cheap and heavy grades of oil to be used in lubricators in which only high grades of lubricants have heretofore been employed, the superheating of the fluid tending to thin the same whereby it may flow as freely through the numerous tubes of the lubricating system as higher grades of lubricants.
I claim 1. A superheating attachment for lubricators, comprising an upright one-piece vertically elongated body having its upper end reduced and threaded externally for reception in an opening in the oil reservoir of said lubricator, the lower end of'said'body having formed therein a threaded socket to receive the drain plug previously received in said opening, said body having formed vertically therethrough a bore with reduced upper and lower ends of equal diameter opening respectively through the upper end of said body and into the aforesaid socket, a single open-ended tube of equal diameter throughout its length passing through the center of the aforesaid bore and having its upper and lower ends secured by fluid tight joints in the reduced ends of said bore, and an inlet into said bore for admitting a heating medium thereto.
2. A superheating attachment for lubricat-ors, comprising an upright one-piece cylindrical body having between its ends a polysided enlargement equipped with a hollow internally threaded boss on one of its sides, the upper end of said body being reduced and externally threaded for reception in an opening in the oil reservoir of the aforesaid lubricator, while the lower end of said body is formed with an internally threaded socket to receive the drain plug previously received in said opening, said body having formed vertically therethrough a cylindrical bore with reduced upper and lower ends of equal diameter opening respectively through the upper end of said body and into the aforesaid socket, said bore being in communication with the aforesaid hollow boss whereby the latter may conduct a heating medium thereto, and a single open-ended tube of equal diameter throughout its length passing through the center of the bore and having its ends secured by fluid tight oints in the reduced ends thereof.
