.To aZZ'wt'o/m t may concern v i f y Be it known that I, HENRY'QVKEELAER, a citizen ofthe United States, "residing at Lakeside, in the county of Chelan and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Fireplaces, of which the-following isa specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in fire places and more partilcularly to what is known as a portable re p ace. v
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a fire place which may be moved from place to place and which provides different compartments for the heat ig' and cooking ofvarious articles.
A further object of the invention is the construction of such a fire place havinga plurality of doors which may be so adjusted as to disclose an open re place or which` may, be closed to rovide various drafts.
ith these an other objects in view the invention consists in the noveldetails of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more clearly understood from the following description and drawings, in which: t
Figure 1 is a front View. Fig. 2 is a deao tail of one door section. Fig. 3 is a vertical section, and Fig. 4 is a fragmental side view.
In` constructing the device I provide ay casing consisting of a top plate 1, .a rear plate 2, a bottom plate 3, end plates 4 and a5 a front plate 5 which only extends a short distance downward from the top plate 1, the remainder of the distance being open. The plate 6 is secured to the back of the casing and a plate 7 to the bottom plate 4o and an asbestos filling 8 is placed between the lates 2 and 6, and 3 and T e front opening in the casin is adapted to be closed by a plurality o door sections 9 which are hingedly connected to the ends of the casing by means of the .plates 10 which are also pivotally connected to the door sections by means of rods 11 which pass through sockets 12 formed on the door sections and through an eye 13 formed on the plates 10. The door sections are each of a width equal to the width of the end plates 4, whereby when they are open to their fullest extent they will lie against the `end sections without any protruding ends. 66 A plate 14 having the chamber 15 therein specification orLetters-raient;
,to 'the front doors are opening' is a damper 23 which isa 'atenfedierrp 115,191.6-

pening,into' .jthecasing '-i'ssecured tov the bottom p1ate "3 nand extendsfin frontofthe casing. .#Thisnplateflfffis "provided' with' an opening 1'6 I1n thetop thereof which allows a1r to vpass through. the 'chamber'l into the 60 casing. `Within the casing andjgsup orted on the bottom thereof are andirons 1 or a grate for coal may be used. A compartment 18 extends transversely of the casing and openings are formed in each end of the casing as indicated, at 19 and doors 20 similar hingedly connected to the casing and adapted to close the openings in the ends. Within the compartment are a plurality of .shelves 21 to receive various 70 articles. The compartment is so placed in the casing as to allow an opening of'passa e 22 in 'the rear thereof and at the 'top o the y apted to be operated yfrom the outside offthe casing. A smoke stack I24 extends from the top of the casing.
In constructing a device, as above described it willbevseen that I have rovided a lie place which is easily portable rom one place to another .and in which `by opening and `closing the various doors a greater or less draft may be secured. Normally there is a slight draft through the opening 16 in the plate 14 and if it is desired to get a Se reater draft'thel lower doors may be opened. regulating the damper 23 the passage o the heat through the openng'22 may be,
regulated. The compartment 18 ma be used for cooking various articlesan the articles may be (placed within the compartment or remove therefrom by opening the doors 20.` When the `front doors'9 are open they swing back against the end pieces and do not protrude beyond the front or rear` walls `o the casing. It will also beseen that by providing the asbestos lining in the rear and bottom of the casing it prevents too great a heat against a wall which may be nearthe lire ace or prevents too great. a 10-y heat on the oor. By openin all of the doors I ma have an open fire p ace.
Having ully described my inventionwhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isz- 105 1. A portable fire-place comprising acasing having an open front and chimney, doors hingedly connected to the casin for closing said open front, the rear wal of said casing extending above the top wall thereof and rolled to vform a chimney, and a compartment arranged transversely of the casing and spaced from said wall.
2. A portable ire-place'comprising a casing having an open front, means for closing said front, a compartment arranged transversely of the casing, the rear wall of said compartment spaced from and the front wall of the compartment secured to the rear Wall of the casing, the front wall having an opening therethrough alining with the passageway thus formed between the'rear walls,
a damper on the upper wall of the compartment to close said passageway, an asbestos filling between the bottom of the casing and a plate spaced therefrom, and an asbestos lined plate spaced from theback plate of the casing.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
