Description
CHRLES MAWER, OF BUCYRUS, OHIO.
' SIGNAL-LAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 11 1916.
Application iiiea January 29, 1915. serial No. 5,064.
T 0 all lwhom t may concern Beit known that I, CHARLES MAWER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bucyrus, in the county of Crawford and State of Oliio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Signal-Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to signal lamps and more particularly to a combined lamp and license plate holder, and has for its primary object to so construct and arrange the parts that they can be readily disassembled for various purposes. o
Another object of the invention is to so form the parts that they can be readily stamped into their various formations.
lith these and other objects in view, the f invention consists of the novel fea-tures, details of construction and. combination of parts, which hereinafter will be more particularly set forth, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings z-Figure 1 is a front view of the lamp. Fig. 2 is a cross section therethrough. Fig. 3 is a longi tudinal section therethrough. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail section. Fig. 5 is a rear elevation of the lamp.
Referring to the drawings the numeral 1 designates a casing tapering in a forward direction and as shown has connected to its rear portion a pair of spaced ears 2 adapted to receive the spaced arms 3 of a bracket 4.'
The rear ofthe casing is provided with a. circularI opening 5 in which is fixed the socket 6 of an electric light 7. Detachably positioned interiorly lof the casing through the medium of resilient fingers 8 bent inwardly from the casing is an outwardly diverging reflector 9. This reflector 9 is also provided with an opening 10 in alinement with the opening 5, and as shown the walls thereofv encircle the base portion: of the bulb 1l of the light, By this structure it will be seen that the rear face of the reflector abuts the lamp socket 6 so as to limit the rearward movement of the reflector, the fingers 8 limiting when in an operative pov sition the forward movement of the reflector.y
with the vertical portion of the door frame.
Each of the leaf springs 15 has one extremity secured to the horizontal portion 16 of the door frame.
By constructing a lamp as shown, I can readily remove the reflector from the casing by depressing tlie fingers 8 toward the casing, thus allowing the reflector to slide toward the open end of the casing, it being understood that prior to this the bulb 11 has been removed from the lamp socket 6. When the upper edges of the plates 13 and 14 are forced'rearwardly the resiliency of the springs allows the rear portions of the plates to be dislocated from between the leaf springs 6 and the inner surface of the door frame. i
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as-new is A signal lamp comprising a casing having its edge bent at right angles, a cover secured to the right angular bent edge, said casing havingvinstruck resilient fingers, a reflector havingits 'edge 'portion abutting said fingers, and illuminating means passing through said reflector and casing, said fingers limiting movement of the reflector in one direction while said means limits the movement of said reflector in an opposite CHARLES MAWER.
