NED F. CI-IUBB, OF HOWELL, MICHIGAN.
PLOW ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 11, 1916.
Application filed August 7, 1912. Serial No. 713,877.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NED F. CHUBB, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Howell, in the county of Livingston, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow Attachments; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to sulky plows and has for an object to provide a sulky plow having novel means for raising and lowering and also turning the furrow wheel in either direction.
With the above objects in View the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be made in the minor details of construction within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification :Figure 1 is a side elevation of the plow. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the plow. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the plow. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view on the line 4L4 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings in which like characters of reference designate similar parts, 10 designates the plow beam which is equipped at the rear ends with a plow 11. The land wheel 12 is equipped with a crank aXle 13 which is journaled in the depending bearing arms 14 of a substantially inverted U-shaped bracket 15 which is secured near one end to the beam through the instrumentality of a strap 16. The ground wheel crank axle is manipulated in the usual manner by an operating lever 17 For mounting the furrow wheel 18 I provide a substantially vertically disposed strap bracket 19 which is provided terminally with outstanding bearing arms 20, the strap bracket being secured to the beam by a clamp plate 21 through which and the bracket securing bolts are passed above and below the beam. A truss rod 23 is centrally secured to the bracket and is bent downwardly therefrom and terminally secured to the beam by bolts 24. A stand shaft 25 is revolubly mounted'in the bearing arms 20 and is equipped at the lower end with a laterally disposed integral axle 26 upon which the furrow wheel is revolubly secured. An operating lever 27 is secured to the upper end of the shaft and serves to rotate the shaft in order to swing the wheel, the operating lever normally extending horizontally rearward along the beam and being terminally secured in the notched upper end of a standard 28, to hold the pivot wheel against swinging.
For raising and lowering the pivot wheel I provide a lever 29 which is curved downwardly at the forward end and pivotally secured to the beam by a pivot bolt 30. A sleeve 31 is mounted on the stand shaft 25, between spaced pins 32 passed through the stand; shaft. Intermediate of its ends, the lever is bifurcated as shown at 33 and the sleeve is provided with cutaway portions 34 in which seat the furcations of the lever, whereby the lever is pivotally held with relation t0 the sleeve and is permitted transverse sliding movement. A. spring controlled pawl 35 carried by the lever is normally engaged in a notched segment 36 secured to the bracket 15, the lever being thus held stationary and locking the stand shaft against vertical movement. By manipulation of the lever 27 the stand shaft may be rotated, and by manipulation of the lever 29 the stand shaft may be raised or lowered, both of these movements being entirely independent of each other.
l/Vhat is claimed is In a structure of the class described, the combination with a main frame, of a rotatable longitudinal and vertically movable wheel carrying shaft carried thereby, a col lar rotatably secured on the shaft and provided at diametrically opposed side portions with transverse grooves having flat parallel bottoms, the upper and lower side of each groove being V-shaped with the apices forming knife edge bearings for a lever and a pivoted lever having its intermediate portion bifurcated with its furcations disposed in said grooves and adapted to slidably rock against saidconvex sides.
In testimony whereof,I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
NED F. CHUBB.
