To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, EDWARD'I. Pnsnson, a citizen of the United States, and a, resi-. dent of Leipsic, in thecounty of Putnam and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new'and useful Vibrator; and I dohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the. art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to electric vibrators for producing pulsations ofghigh potential current.
It is particularly adapted for use in producing sparks at the terminals of the spark cylinder.
By my invention an electric vibrator-is produced which is exceedingly eflicient and durable and one that is easily adjusted and which will retain its adjustment in the oper-- ation thereof. p
The vibrator is so constructed that the vibratory orpulsating current will be produced at a very-little loss, requiring the consumption of'a very little energy, and yet one wherein thebreakswill be perfect and complete and very rapid. 2
The invention may be contained in many forms of electromagnetic structures usable within the purview, of myclaims hereinafter appended. p i To show the practicability of my invention I have selectedone .of such constructions as an example and shall describe it The construction selected is illustrated 7 the accompanying drawings.

. of the device. The binding posts, contacts and other parts are clamped to the base 1. An iron-clad magnet 2 is located in a shell 3. The shell 3 is'provided with a flange .4 and a threaded portion 5. A rim nut 6 may be threaded over the threaded portion. 5 and so as to clamp the base 1 and thus lock the shell 3 and the magnet 2 in position in the base 1. The magnet is also provided with the core 7 which'may be suitably secured to the shell 3. A vibrating reed 10 extends from a supporting block 11 over the magnet 2. The reed 10 has an arm 12 which terminates in adisk 13. The disk 13 covers the upper end of the shell 3 and so as to complete the magnetic circuit from the shell 3 tothe core 7. It reduces as much as possible the reluctance of the magnetic circuit of the magnet and affords an efficient armature of small mass which gives small inertia to the reed and permits rapid and yet responsive movements to the-reed and the contact carried thereby.
The reed 10 is secured to the block 11 by means of the screw 14. Theblock 11 may be secured in position on the base 1 by means of the nuts 8 and the bolts 9 which clamp the block 11 to the base 1. The reed is provided with an eyelet 15 having a slot 16 connected? therewith. A bolt 17 a channel 18 formed in itshead 19 having through the eyelet 15 which may be inserted is large enough to permit the head 19 to pass through. The head 19 of the bolt may then be slipped along the reed 10 so that the Sides of the slot 16 will enter the channel 18 and the reed will thus'be held in a position parallel to the basel when. the bolt is threaded into the blockll. The reed feed 10 is raised above the block 11 the reed will be slightly bent at a point between the bolt 17 and the bolt 14 and the reed will be bound in the channel 18 so that the bolt 17 will beheld in position by the tension of the reed 10. It is requisite that the reed 10 and its disk 13. be positioned very close, to the upper end of the magnet 2 and, particularly, very close to the upper end of the shell 3 and thus be maintained in a position which is parallel to the plane of the upper edge of the shell 3. The side walls of the channel 18 will thus hold the reed in a position parallel to the base land the disk 13 parallel with the of the shell 3.
An arm is supported on a" bridge 21 which extends across two posts 22 located on opposite sides of the reed 12. Y The arm 20' and the bridge 21 are held in position by means of the nuts 23 which thread upon the bolts 24 which extend up through the posts 22. The posts also are clamped to' the base 1 by means of the nuts 23and the bolts 24. The arm 20 is slightly stepped at 25, at its point of connection with the bridge 21. A thin metal strip 26 is riveted to the bridge 21 by means of the rivets 27 and it is loosely riveted to the arm 21 by the rivet'28, it being made straightit is disposed in spaced relation with respect to the arm 20 which gives room for some flexure to the outer end of the strip 26. The outer endof the strip 26 and the outer end of the reed 10,
that is, the outer edge of the disk 13 are pro? vided with platinum contact points 29 where the electric circuit 45 from a suitable source is completed through the magnet and through an induction coil orother device to which the vibrator may be connected, and also where it is broken.
The arm 20 is adjusted in its position so as to bring about a proper adjustment between the contact points 29 by means of the bolt 85 which is provided with the gnarled flange nut 36 which may be threaded upon the bolt 35 to force the arm 20 toward the base-,1 and consequently to place the contact points 29 nearer together. The reed 10 may also be raised by means of the bolt 17 to bring the contact points nearer together. In order to hold the nut 36 from turning when it is in such position that it would very loosely press upon the arm 20 a spring 37 is provided which is located about the bolt 35 and between the nut 36 and the base 1. The arm 20 is broadened at 32 to prevent bending except at the necks 33.

The. construction selected and described may be greatly varied in the arrangement and manufacture of its parts and in the substitution of elements having equivalent functions and such modifications may be used fo'r'many varied purposes and still contain the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
-- 1. In an electric vibrator, a reed, a mag netic means for operating the reed, means for adjusting the reed and maintaining it 1n a parallel relation with respect to its different positions of adjustment, an elastic arm, contacts supported by the arm and the reed, and means for locking one end of the arm in positionand means for flexing the arm to adjust the contacts with respect to each other.
2. In an electric vibrator, the combination 'of a reed having an eye and a slot communicating with the eye, and a channeled headed bolt adapted to be inserted in the eye and so as to engage opposite sides of the reed at opposite edges of the channel.
