Be it known that I, GUSTAF A. H. WAH- LIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Garvin, in the Ycounty of Lyon and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Reels,` of
which the lfollowing is a specification.
The present invention relates to improve- Y ments in binding reels for harvesting inachines or the like.
It is the object of this invention to provide a reel of this character wherein'the parts are capable of beingl collapsed when not in use, and possessing a novel consti-uction of means forlocking the parts in either operative or collapsed position.
Other objects will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the
same residing in the combination, const-ruction and arrangement of .parts hereinafter more fully described.

The collar 22 forcesr the disks of the series into frictional engagement Y with each other, thereby effectively locking the parts in operative position between the collar 22V and the collar 26 fixed on thefshaft ofthe hubV against which the innermost disk When the reel isnot in use, thecomponent'parts of the latter may be readily 'and easily folded in the manner shownin Fig. il,V Yby simply raising the `lever 15, thus simultaneously movingV the sleeve 14 and collar 22 out of engagement with the disks of the respective hubs, thereby permitting each blade to be independently moved to any desired adjusted or folded position.
Encircling the shaft is a coil spring 27 having one end bearing against the innermost disk of the hub 6, and its opposite end bearing against the flange 28 of the sleeve 14. This spring operates to initially hold the spokes with the blades in operative or set position, until the locking lever 15 is operated to effectively lock these parts in fixed relation. In addition to this function of the spring, the latter also exerts a pressure against the disks When the parts are folded to retainy the parts in this position.
it will be observed that each blade is supported by tvvo spokes, and that each spoke has associated therewith one of the disks that constitute the hubs 6 and T respectively. The disks are so arranged that the innermost disk of the hub 6 is a companion to the outermost disk of the hub 7, as both of these disks are associated with the spokes supporting thesame blade, this order of arrangement being the same With regard to the other disks of both hub structures. Manifestly the spring 27 operates with the same effect upon the disks of the hub 7 as those constituting the hubv G and that the operations are simultaneous.
It is believed that from the foregoingdescription the nature and advantages of the invention Will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention pertains, Without requiring a more extended eX- planation and therefore the same has been omitted. However I desire to have ity understood that l do not limit myself to the precise construction and arrangement of parts herein shown and described, and that various changes may be made When desired as fall Within the scope of the appended claims.
Vhat is claimed is:-
l. A collapsible reel comprising a plurality of relatively movable members, a shaft supporting said members, each member having spaced bearings slidably mounted upon the shaft, the adjacent bearings of each series being formed Vvvitli cooperating means for interfitting engagement With each other, a spring encircling the shaft and bearing against the innermost bearing of one series for temporarily holding said members fixed relatively in apredetermined position, and means for positively locking the members in said position.
2. A collapsible reel comprising a plurality of independent adjustable members, a shaft supporting said members, each member having spaced bearings slidably mounted upon the shaft at remote points, the adjacent bearings of each series being formed with cooperating means for interiitting engagement with each other on a predetermined position of said members, a spring encircling said shaft and bearing against the innermost bearing of one series for temporarily holding said members in adjusted posit-ion, a sleeve slidably mounted on said shaft and adapted to engage said innermost bearing for positively vlocking the members in adjusted position, and an operating lever associated with said sleeve.

A collapsible reel comprising a plurality of relatively movable members, a shaftV supporting said members, each of said members having spaced bearings slidably mounted upon the shaft, a spring encircling said shaft and engaging the innermost bearingv of one series, the adjacent bearing Vof each series being formed With an opening and lug adapted to be moved under the action of said spring into interlocking engagement upon a predetermined position of said members, and means for positively locking said members in adjusted position.

A collapsible reel comprising a plurality of independently adjustable members, a hollow shaft supporting said members, each of saidY members having spaced bearings slidably mounted upon said shaft, a sleeve slidably mounted upon the shaft, a collar slidably mounted upon said shaft, a rod conneoting said sleeve and collar, and an operating leverco-nnected with said sleeve for simultaneously moving the latter and said collar into effective engagement with the bearings of each series for positively locking the same and said members fixed relativelyV in adjusted position. y
A collapsible reel comprising a plurality of relativelyr movable members, a shaft supporting said members, 4each member havi ing spaced bearings slidably mounted upon the shaft at remote points, the adjacent bearings of each series being formed with an opening and a lug for interlocking engagement with each other, means for simuitaneously moving the respective members of each f Vseries into interlocking enga-gement with each other, including a sleeve slidably mounted upon the shaft and adaptedv to vbe moved into engagement with the innermost bearingk of one series, a connection between the sleeve and the bearings of the otherv series, and an operating lever associated with the sleeve.
