These drewhachs ille nvoided according to the present invention owing to the fact that the mouth piece proper is attached by the aid of a bandage constructed to conform to the outer contour of the lips in a similar manner to devices which are applied tothe' upper lip for training mustaches and are known as mustache trainers, by which means the mouth piece is readilv applied and removed and securely held in the correct position in use. It may be here stated that it has already been proposed to attach helmets or nose and mouth coverings to the face of the user.

Figure 1 of the drawing shows a front view of the device attached to the head and Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. 3 is a vertical section of the device. Fig. t is e side view of a modified construction and. Fig. 5 is a vertical section of another modification.

The mouth piece connection comprises a tubular chamber (4 provided with a lat-- erallv extending pipe or breathing tube 6 to which a flexible. rubber mouth piece 0 is secured so as to form an air tight con nection therewith. but is easily removable tl'lQI'PflOZll for the purpose of renewing the mouth piece. The mouth piece consists of -a strip c. preferably of soft rubber. Small lugs 0' are preferably formed on the inner face of the strip and project between the upper and lower teeth so that the strip may he held against displacement in the mouth.

As the strip is removable from the pipe 6 it is not designed as a carrier or support for the chamber. 5 and is so secured to the chamber a, by shackles or straps c, that a space for the lips is'fcrmed between the outside of the strip c and the inside of the bandage which rests against thelips so as to hold them against the strip c.- A perfect gas tight closure for the mouth is thus formed which will not oniv relieve the teeth from the strain caused by tightly gripping the lugs, but also relieves the operator of the efiort of keeping the lips closed over the strip a.

The strips f of the bandage may he se cured to a cap '57, which surrounds the head like a. helmet. by buckles or other attaching means. The strips f are provided witherilarged ends or thickened parts so as to prevent the ends slipping out when the buckles are loosened. The bandage. may be made of any material that can he easilv disinfect ed for instance of rubber or fabric impregneted with rubber, and is preferably made in one homogeneous piece.

The strips f of the bandage may be fastoned to a skeleton head covering 9, Fig; 4. If so desired, the strips f may he made of such a length that they can be tied togetheron the back of the head or the neck or may he'held there hv buckles or the llke.

In the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 3.

The device as described above has more over the advantage that even persons who are not in the happy possession of all their teeth can use the apparatus without fear that the mouth does not close completely upon the mouth piece or that the lugs are bitten through, because the wearer of the of an operator,

I claim:

1. A month connection for a portable breathing apparatus, comprising a breath ing tube, a flexible mouth piece removably connected thereto adapted to cover the teeth and a bandage secured to the tube in front of the mouth piece adapted to conform to the outer contour of the lips of the operator. a

2. A month connectior'r'for a portable breathing apparatus, comprising a breathing tube, a flexible mouth piece removably connected of an operator, a bandage secured to the tube in front of the mouth piece and atiepted to conform to the outer contour of the lips of the operator, and lugs on the inside of the mouth-piece for engagement by the teeth.

3. A mouth connection for a portable breathing apparatus, comprising a breathing tube, a flexible mouth piece mounted on the tube and adapted to cover the teeth, and a bandage arranged to engage the lips and thereto adapted to cover the teeth menses conform to the outer contour thereof to hold them in contact with the mouth piece.

A mouth connection for portable breathing apparatus, comprising a breathing tube, a flexible mouth piece mounted on the tube and adapted to cover the teeth, a bandage arranged to engage the lips and conform to the outer contour thereof to hold them in contact with the mouth-piece, and means to connect the bandage to the head of the wearer.

5. A mouth connection for a portable breathing apparatus, comprising a chamber, a breathing tube extending therefrom, a flexible mouth piece removably connected to the tube and adapted to engage the teeth of the wearer, a bandage through which the tube projects, adapted to conform to the outer contour of the lips, and means connesting the bandage to the chamberoin front of the mouth-piece so as to form a space for the lips between the mouth piece and bandage. p

6. A month connection for a portable breathing apparatus, comprising a charm her, a breathing tube extending therefrom, a flenible mouth piece removably connected to the tube and adapted to engage the teeth of the wearer, a bandage through which the tube projects, adapted to conform to the outer contour of the lips, means connecting the bandage to the chamber in front of the mouth-piece so as to form a space for the lips between the mouth piece and bandage,

and means on and thereby press the lips against the mouth piece.
