To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osErH HOLLENBUR- GER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Shiner, in the county ofLavaca and State of Texas, have invented new and usefullmprove'ments in Air-Cooling Apparatus, of which the following isa specification. 7
The invention relates to an air cooling apparatus, and has for its primary object to provide an apparatus of this character wherein airjto be delivered to a room or other inclj'osure will be treated under the influence of moisture to reduce the temperature thereof Without the use of ice, the air being sufficiently cooled for use in preserving food stuff and reducing the temperature within a room or inclosure.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character wherein the air is filtered so as toremove all foreign matter therefrom, thus rendering it pure prior to its circulation within an mclosure or .room forrefrigeration or other purposes.
I A further object of the invention is the provision of an apparatus of this character wherein the construction thereof is of novel form to insure efliciency and reliability in its operation, the construction being simple, thereby enabling it to ,be installed at a minimum expense. i

be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Supported upon the foundation B is an air pump. C, which is adapted to be driven from a motor D or any approved type.
The coolingapparatus comprises a cooling drum which is arranged at a suitable elevation above the surface of the foundation B and spaced from the air pump C, the said drum beingi supported by posts 11 which ares'uitably anchored within the foundation andhas arranged beneath the same a water collecting tank 12 provided with an overflow cook 13, while above the said cooling drum is a water spraying device 14, receiving lts water supply from any suitable source, the drum being covered with a cloth jacket 15 which is adapted to absorb and become saturated with the water discharged from the spraying device 14 so that the contents of the drum will become cooled thereby, the surplus water from the said device 14 being trapped or caught in the tank 12, which de livers its overflow through the cock 13 to any suitable point. Leading from the air pump C is an airdelivery pipe 16, the latter being formed witha coil 17 located Within the water tank12 so as to be submerged in the water contained therein, and this pipe 16 isextended upwardly to the top of the drum 10 and is tapped therein. for delivering the air after passing through the coil vertically disposed perforated air jet tubes 18 which emit air under pressure from the pump C in the direction of the jacket 15 on the drum 10 for cooling the jacket so that the air within the drum 10 will be sustained cool under the influence of the water without the same.
Leading from the bottom of the drum 10 downwardly through the foundation B to a determined point below the surface thereof is an air delivery pipe 19, the same being tapped in one end of a cylindrical boiler 20 which is embedded in sand and gravel, as at 21, filling a well 22 formed in the foundation, the boiler 20 being constructed within with foraminous strainer disks 23 which confine therebetween a suitable filtering medium 24, while the spaces 25 between the disks 23 and the ends of the boiler 20 serve as air circulating chambers, the air admitted to the boiler 20 from the pipe 19 being designed to percolate through the filtering medium 24 and is delivered subsequently to the filtering thereof from the said boiler 1 20 through a conveyer pipe 26 which is tapped inthe opposite end of the boiler and leads to an auxiliary fiIteringcylinder-QY located above the foundation B at any suitable pcint. Leading from the auxiliary filtering cylinder 27 is a main 28 having branches 29 which distribute the cool air to the points desired or within the inclosure A for use as a refrigerant orfor reducing the temperature within the inclosure. Leading from the pipe 19 at-a suitable point between its connection with the drum 10 and the boiler 20 is a by-pass pipe 30 which also communicates with the auxiliary filtering cylinder 27. Both the pipes '26 and 30 are provided with cut-off valves 3l'so that the.
the valve will operate to permit the escape of air for reducing the pressure within the drum, the pump .0 being automatically controlled for the starting and stopping thereof under the action ofthe pressure ofthe 'air within the drum 10 in any suitable-manner.
'From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that the construction and manner of operation ofthe device will be clearly understood, and therefore a'more extended explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed is 1. Arcooling apparatus comprising an air receiving drum, an absorbent jacket without the drum and covering the same, a water -means for conveying air under pressure through the coil and into the drum, and means for delivering the air from the drum.

A cooling apparatus comprising an air receiving drum, an absorbent jacket without the drumand covering the same, a water spraying device arranged above the drum for moistening the said jacket, awater col-V lector below said drum, means for conveyi-ng airwunder pressure through the water collector and into the drum,-means for delivering'the air fromthe drum, means for discharginga portion of the airdelivered to the drum onto the jacket exteriorly thereof, and means for-changing the courseof the air delivered from the drum. i i
