PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREV MGFALL, OF YONKERS, NEV YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOOK-HOLDERS AND LEAF-TURNERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,654, dated August 1, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW MCFALL, of Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and in the State of New York, have invented an Improved Book-Holder and Leaf-Turner; and do hereby declare that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing here inai'ter referred to, forms a full and exact speciiication ofthe same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principles of my said improv em ent by which my invention may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent.
My invention relates to improvements in that class of musi estan ds or book-holders in which the leaves are turned by devices suitably arranged for that purpose, and the nature thereof consists in certain modifications and improvements in the details of the construction of the same, hereinafter described and shown.
In the accompanying drawin g, which illustrates my invention and forms a part ofthe specification thereof, in which corresponding parts are illustrated by similar letters- Figure l is a view, in perspective. Fig. 2 is a view with a part of the frame removed, illustrating in detail the operating mechanism.'
The construction, operation, and relative arrangement ofthe component parts of my invention are as follows:
Upon the rod a, attached in a slightly inclined position to the frame I), are arranged the arms o, the outer ends of which are turned at right angies and pronged in order to receive the pages of a book or leaves of music. Attached to the opposite ends of the said arms are elastic cords or springs d connected with a tightening apparatus, c, by which the said cords may at all times be kept at the requisite tension. f designates a spring, one end of which is bent upward and provided with nicks or notches for the reception of the longitudinal rod g which holds the said spring in position. The said spring is forced downward by the finger-key h attached to the rod k, one end of which is pivoted to the frame. By this arrangement the said spring is moved downward one notch at a time, and at each movement frees one of the arms o which revolve upon the spindle a and causes the leaf to which it is attached to perform a revolution. rlhe rods g and k are operated laterally by means of the thumb-bar s and spring t in such a manner that the spring f may be thrown upward when requisite. The bars m Am m are provided with the sliding hooks o, the bottom and top of which are for the purpose of holding the book, and the middle ones ol of which are for holding or attaching the frame to the stand or instrument upon which it is used.
Having thus described the construction and arrangement of the parts constituting my invention, I will indicate what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, in the following clause:
rllie frame b, spring j', spring o, rod g, rod k, key h, and tliumbbar s, when arranged and operatin g together as herein described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of March, 1871.
ANDREV MOFALL.
