Application filed August 16, 1915. Serial No. 45,809.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HERMAN E. LLOYD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Griswold, in the county of Cass and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hoisting-Brackets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in hoisting brackets particularly those adapted to be applied to electric light poles for facilitating the elevation and lowering of transformers.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a device of this character which is readily adjustable to any position on an electric light pole or other support.
A further object is to provide a simple bracket which will be very light in construction yet sufiiciently strong when used in lifting very heavy bodies.
With these and minor objects in view my invention resides in novel features of construction. combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved bracket in position on an electric light pole; Fig, 2 is a front edge view of the same; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 33 of Fig. 1'; Fig. 4 is a vertical trans verse section on the line 44 of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 is a detail vertical sectional view on the line 55 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates mv improved bracket applied to an electric light pole P. This bracket 1 is substantially in the form of a triangular frame 2 which has one of its arms 23 disposed adjacent said pole P, where it is held in position preferably by a chain 4. This chain 4 is secured by one end to a clevis 5 held in position at the upper end of said arm 3 by a pivot pin 6, said chain being adapted to be wound twice around the pole and have its free end engaged with the hoop or the like 7 also secured to said clevis 5. This arrangement allows the bracket to be supported at any position on thepole, and by providing a chain or the like for this purpose, various sizes of poles can-readily have the device applied thereto. The lower end of said arm 3 is provided with a semi-circular support engaging foot 8, which has a pair of spurs 9 formed on its inner face which are adapted to project into the support when said engaging foot is applied thereto. Brace bars 10 connect the extreme outer ends of said support engaging foot and the outer end of the frame Said bars 10 have their inner ends which engage said foot 8 offset as shown at 11 to provide attaching members by which said brace bars may be secured to said foot by the rivets 12. The outer ends of these brace bars 10 are secured by the rivets 13 to the outer end of the frame 2, and are also provided with a hole which is adapted to aline with a similar hole in said frame 2 and to receive therein a pivot pin 14 which holds a suitable pulley carrying member preferably in the form of a clevis 15, which is adapted to secure a pulley or block to the hoisting bracket. The arrangement of the aforesaid brace bars 10 is best disclosed in Fig. 3.
From the above description it will be readily evident that I have produced a hoisting bracket of very efficient construction, which can be removably secured in any adjusted position on an electric light pole or other support to which it is applied.'
While I have described the elements best adapted to perform the functions of my invention, it is evident that various changes in the form, proportion, and arrangement of the various parts may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
I claim as my invention:
A hoisting bracket comprising a triangular supporting frame having one arm of said triangle adjacent a support, attaching means at one end of said arm for securing said bracket in adjusted position thereon, a semi-circular support engaging member having spurs projecting from its inner side,
