to adjustable frames particularly adapted for use in making mats, for household use, though they may be capable of broader application.
An object is the provision of a frame which may be readily assembled and easily adjusted to form rectangles of different dimensions.
A further object is the provision of a frame of the character described, which will be economical in construction and durable in service.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel arrangement and construction of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein is set forth an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that such changes and modifications may be resorted to as come within scope of the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings wherein similar reference characters designate like parts in the several views; Figure 1, is a plan of a frame assembled to form a rectangle; Fig. 2, a perspective of a portion of one of the members, on an enlarged scale; Fig. 3, a plan of a frame assembled to form a square, and showing the manner of positicning material thereon to form a mat.
Referring now more part cularly to the drawings a frame, designated by the reference character 1 comprises a plurality of dent-ated strips 2, which may be of any suitable or desirable dimensions. These strips may be constructed of any material suitable for the purpose for which the frames are to be employed. The strips are divided by a plurality of uniformly spaced transverse slots 3 extended in from the upper surface into a series of dentils 4. A connecting member 5 secured on one side of each strip. by suitable means such as screws -7, with its upper edge flush with the upper edge of the strip, extends beyond the end thereof a distance equal to the width of the strip and has a right angled extension '6, the length of which is sli htly greater than the combined width of a slot and a dentil. The width of a connecting member is the same as the depth of a slot 3, and the thickness such that it may be easily placed in any slot of a complementary strip. The frame is assembled by abutting the end of a strip, from which the connecting member extends, against the side of asecond strip, and the connector pushed down in a selected slot. The angular extension 6 lies along the far, or outside, of the second strip and effectively secures the first strip against movement in any except a vertical plane. Similarly a third strip is connected to the first, and the second to the third. It is to be observed that any sized frame may be formed by appropriate selection of slots. Indices may be placed in juxtaposition to the slots to facilitate the selection of slots to form desired sizes. It is to be observed that the indices shown on the drawing indicate the size, in inches, that a mat will be if the frame is assembled with the connectors in the corresponding slots.
In making mats with this frame. material of suitable nature, such as cord or tidy cotton, is placed in the slots. being st etched across the frame frcm side to side, and wound about opposing dentils fi st in one direction then transversel WVhen a desired quantity of cord. usuallv eight strands, has been accumulated in all the slots, the longitudinal strands 9-- and the transverse strands 10- are t ed together at their intersections bv suitable means such as knots 11. When the intersections have all been united the mat mav be removed from the frame by slipping the loops off the dentils; the loops may then be cut and will form a fringe for the mat.
It will be observed that on the end of the strip to which the connector is secured, a slot has been omitted. This has been done to provide an ex ent of co d to fo m the fringe of a mat. Th s omission might cause confusion in alining the cord across the frame were it not that the angular projections 6 from the connectors block What would be the corresponding slot on the opposite strip.

A frame member comprisinga rectilinear strip having a plurality of uniformly spaced transverse slots extended in'from the upper surface thereof, and an 'L shaped connector attached to one end thereof in such relationship thereto that When the attached leg is placed in any slot of a complementary strip said strips Will lie in the same plane While the lateral leg lies along the far side ofthe complementary strip, holding the strips in juxtaposition and blocking the en trance to the slot adjacent'to that through which the extended leg is disposed. 4.
