BASE-BALL-GAME BOARD.
Application filed August 21, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD B. BARNHILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in .Base-Ball-Game Boards, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a game apparatus designed particularly for use in providing for the playing of base ball, the apparatus involving a movable element adapted to indicate a variety of plays and also player positions, the movable element when in adjustment to indicate a player position also indicating at that particular position on the field the desired play.
The invention in the preferred form of details will be described in the following specification, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved game apparatus; Fig. 2 is a plan of the boardrFig. 3 is a plan of the indicator.
With reference to the accompanying drawing the improved game apparatus comprises a supporting base 1 which is preferably arranged upon legs 2 so as to be elevated. The upper portion of the base 1 represents the board 3 as fixed, and is preferably arranged at an angle to the horizontal for convenience in playing. The board 3 is marked on its upper surface or face to indicate a board playing field, each position being marked by an opening l. In rear of the catchers position there is also an indicator opening 5. The board 3 may, if desired, contain additional openings 6 to receive pegs to represent the players, and may be otherwise and additionally marked or lined to simulate a ball field as may be desired.
Rotatably mounted below the board is an indicator 7. This indicator is preferably circular and has its marginal edge formed with a series of indentations adapted to engage a pin 9 depending from the game board. The indicator is operated through a knob or handle 10 projecting upwardly through the board, the disposition of the handle permitting the movement of the indicator to a position to free it from the pin 9 so that it may be rotated and again returned, when stopped to a position to interlock with the pin so as to prevent its accidental movement.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented B13113 14, 11fi Serial No. 46,660.
' On the marginal edge of the indicator is arranged a series of outline circles 11 adapted in the rotation of the indicator to register with'the opening 5 in the game board. Various data relative to plays and to different fielding positions are marked in these circles, so that when a particular circle is visible through the indicator open-- ing 5 there will appear through such opening either a particular play, or the well understood abbreviations of a particular fielding position. On the face of the indicator within the indicating circles are arranged other auxiliary indicating circles 12. These circles invariably indicate plays by the fielding team, and are particularly and peculiarly arranged in the following manner. As in the rotation of the indicator the designation, first base appears in the indicating space 5 there will simultaneously appear in the opening 4 adjacent first base position on the field the play to be made at first base. This will be followed throughout for every fielding position, in that when such position appears in the indicator opening there will appear at the player opening data relative to the play made.
The details of playing the game of the base ball in connection with the device are not deemed necessary to be set forth specifi cally herein, it being obvious that no change whatever is to be made in the game as played on the field and that the scoring and rules of such game is to be followed in the particular game board.
What is claimed is:
1. A game board apparatus including a game board marked to represent a ball field and formed adjacent each fielding position with an opening and remote from the ball field with an indicator opening, an indicator mounted for rotation below the game board and presenting in each position of the inclicator data to be visible through the openings.
2. A game board apparatus including a game board marked to represent a ball field and formed adjacent each fielding position with an opening and remote from the ball field with an indicator opening, and an indicator mounted for rotation below the game board and presenting in each position of the indicator data to be visible through the openings, means for holding the indicator in any desired position relative to the indicator opening.
