FOLDING CRIB.

Application filed October 18, 1915. Serial No. 56,445.
vide a structure of the character mentioned which may be folded to occupy the minimum space when stored; to arrange the members so that when folded the parts will be mutually held frommovement; to provide locking devices for the folding members, said devices being arranged to lock in outof-service position; and to provide easy access to the crib,
Dmwings.Figure 1 is a side view of a crib constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof; Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same folded for storage; Fig. 4 is a cross section taken as on the line 44 in Fig. 2, the bottom of the crib being shown in elevated position, andFig. 5 is a detail view, showing the bottom of the crib in its extended position.
Description-A crib when constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention has a full longitudinal side 10, at the opposite ends whereof are suitably mount v ed posts 11. The opposite longitudinal side .12 is divided vertically, the lower portion pivotally supporting, by means of hinges 13, a swinging upper portion 14. The side having the portions 12,14, is also provided with posts 11. The portion 14 when in service relation, is held in. raised position by bolts 15 mounted on the said portion 14 and extending into the socket plates 16, as seen best in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
The vertical frame of the crib is completed by connecting the longitudinal frames above described, with the swinging end sections 17 and 18. The sections 17 and The hinges 19 and 20 are so arranged that whenthe sections 17 and 18 are swung on both sets of hinges, the meeting edges of the said sections fold inward between the longitudinal sides in the manner shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawings. I
The sections 17 and 18 are extended or service position by latches21. Each latch 2lhas adjacent the free end, a slot tov engage a'retaining pin 22, said slot opening from one edge of said latch. Opening from the opposite edge thereof held in their and further removed from the free end, is
a, second slot, which engages a pin 23 similar in form to the pin 22. In the service position, as shown best in Figs. 2 and 40f the drawings, each latch 21 is disposed to engage the corresponding pin 22. 1
Prior to folding the sections of the crib to the position shown in Fig. 3, the latches 21 are folded back to disengage the pins 22 and to engage the pins 23. These latches are thus housed or bestowed in such manner as to avoid catching and tearing surrounding articles.
Thecrib frame is held in spread or service relation by the' bottom thereof. The bottom, as shown best in Fig. 5 of the drawings, has a middle section 24 and end sections 25. The section 24 equals in length the, combined lengths of the sections 25, and is connected to-each of the sections 25 by hinges 26, which permit the sections 25 to I fold over on the section 24, as seen best in Fig. 3. The section 24 is pivotally attached to the side 10 or 12 optionally-by means of the hinges 27. The sections 24 and 25 are provided with slats 28.
As shown best in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the width of the folded sections 25 and 24, is equal to the combined width of the sections 17 and 18. The length of the sections 17 and 18 approximates the length of the section 25. As the result of this arrangement, when the crib is folded, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the folded end sections 17,18, and the folded bottom sections 24 and 25, fully occupy the space between the Sides 10 and 12-14.
Disposed at intervals along the top rails of the sides 10 and 12-14, are fending buttons 29, which are made preferably of a resilient material, such as rubber, for pressing upon the folded end sections and bottom section to steady the same in their folded position. A similar ofiice is performed by the buttons 30 mounted on one or the other of" the sections 17 and 18 to' yield to the pressure applied thereon when the hooks 31 are closed.
The hooks 31, which are mounted on the posts 11 at one side of the crib, engage suitable eyelets 32 on the opposite side of the crib, when the crib is folded to the position such as illustrated in Fig. 3. The length of the hooks as above suggested, is such as to necessitate the compression of the buttons and 29, in order that thesaid hooks may be caused to engage their corresponding'eyelets. Thus when the'hooks are in position and thecrib structure is folded asshown in Fig. 3' of the drawings, the. parts of the said structure are'prevented from jarring.
Claims; I 4 a v "1. A -folding crib comprising a plurality ofjelongated sides; a plurality [of end sections pivotally connected with said sides and with each otherinpaired relation, said end sections being adapted to fold between said sides; and a bottom 'for said cribembodying a plurality of folding section's, said sections when folded occupy ng a similar space to coupied by the-end sections A folding crib comprising a plurality o igated sides; a plurality of end section pivotallyjconnected with said sides and withf'each'other'inpaired relation, said end sections being adapted to fold between said sides; a bottom for said crib embodying a plurality of folding sections, said sections when folded occupying a similar space to that occupied bytheend sections, and said bottom when" outspreadfbeing adapted to hold said end sections in service relation; and a plurality of yielding fending members disposed between the elongated sides and said bottom when disposed in folded rela-.
tion.
3. A folding crib comprising a plurality of elongated sides; a plurality of end sections pivotally connected with said sides and with each other in paired relation, said end sections being adapted to fold between saidsides; a bottom for said crib embodying a plurality of folding sections, said sections when folded occupying a similar space to that occupied by the end sections; a plurality of yielding fending members disposed 1 sides; and a bottom for said crib embodying a plurality of folding sections, said sections when folded occupying a similar space to that occupied by the end sections, said bottom when folded and said end sections when folded equaling the length of said sides.
