T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM McCon LOUGH, citizen of the United States of America, and resident of obster City, Hamilton county. Iowa, have invented anew and useful Feeding-Trough, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved construction for feeding troughs.
A further object of this invention is to provide an improved constru tion for feeding troughs designed especially for feeding alfalfa and the like to hogs, sheep, and so forth.
A further object of this invention is to provide an improved construction for a feeding trough having a base and a trough and a rack hinged to opposite sides thereof and adapted to rest in superposed relations in use, and to be swung in opposite directions for emptying and cleaning.
My invention consists in the construction, arrargcment and combination of elements hereinafter set forth. pointed out in my claims and illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device in position for use, a portion of the trough being broken away. FiQ'. 2 is an end elevatirn of the device showing the trough and rack swung to open or cleaning position, a po tion of the hopper being broken away.
In the construction of the device as shown a base member is formed of longitudinal frame members 10 spaced apart and connected by cross members 11. in this instance three in number. The frame members 10, 11 preferably are formed of metal straps suitably riveted together. Trough supports 12 are laid upon and riveted in their central portions to each of the cross members 11, and said trou h supports are curved upwardly at their ends. to conform to the curvature of the trough to be supported therein. The trough supports 12 are bent at their ends to form eyes or hinge members 13. 14. A trough is provided and is formed of a sheet metal body 15 provided with metal cleats 16 therebeneath. The cleats 16 are formed with integral eyes 17 or hinge members at one end. and are pivotally connected to the eyes 13 by hinge bolts 18. Thus the trough is hinged to the base member and is adapted at times to rest on the supports 12 as shown in Fig. l, and at Specification of Letters Patent.

A rack is provided and is formed of a sheet meal hopper 19 open at top and bottom and a skeleton frame or rack 20 connected to and pro ecting below the lower part thereof. The skeleton frame or rack 20 is constructed of yoke-shaped bars 21 connected at their ends to the lower portion of the hopper 19, and a longitudinal member 22 riveted to the median line of the closed portions of and connecting said yokeshaped members, together with spaced end bars 28 connecting said hopper and the bases of the end yoke members. Transverse supporting bars 2 1, preferably of angle iron, are connected to the skeleton frame 20, and said transverse supporting bars are formed at one end with eyes 25 or hinge members connected by hinge bolts 26 to the eyes 14:. The transverse supporting bars preferably are spaced above the lower portion of the skeleton frame 20 so that said skeleton frame projects downwardly within the trough when the device is in position for use. Thus the feeding rack is pivotally connected to the base member. and in use is adapted to be supported on the trough, the free ends of the transverse supporting bars resting on the free margin of the trough as shown in Fig. 1, and to be swung later-' ally at times as shown in Fig. '2.
