To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Nuns C. HANSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Zimmerman, in the county of Sherburne and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Duck- Calls, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of devices broadly known as (bird calls and more particularly to a duck call for producing a sound thatv is very similar to the sounds made by ducks. p
The primary object of this invention resides in the provisionof a body provided 4 with means for entirely receiving and protecting a, tongueof mica, the latter being permitted to vibrate therein when air is forced thereupon in producing the desired sound, the said means especially preventing contact of the mouth of the user with the tongue.
Another object of my invention resides in the provision oi' a device of the character described that is simple inconstruction, cilicient in'operaticn and one that can be manufactured and placedon the market at a minimum cost. e
Other objects as well as the nature, charso acteristic features and scopeof my invention will bemore readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings andpointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification.

Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the interior of one of the sections showing the mica arranged thereon, the retaining band being shown in sections.
Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate like or corresponding parts throughout the different views, I provide a body or core comprising two semicylindrical sections 1 and 2, the proximate flatifaces of which are maintained in substantially rigid relation with each other through the medium of my improved retaining means, in this instance, a metal band 3. jacent one end as at 4 to provide a mouthpiece 5 for a purpose to be hereinafter re ferred to. The bodyor core is provided with a longitudinal tapering bore 6 which tapers toward the mouth piece. The boreis provided by forming in each of the sections longitudinal grooves 7 having transverse curved bottoms which communicate withthe longitudinal flat bottom grooves 8 therein. Mounted between the fiat proximate faces of the members is a tongue 9 formed preferably of mica of a contour corresponding substantially to the outer sides of the faces, which latter are provided with shoulders 10, against which the inner end of the tongue abuts. In order to permit of the vibration of the tongue 9, I have provided the flat faces with corresponding recesses 11, the bottoms of which diverge'toward the mouthpiece 5. By this arrangement it will be readily apparent that when the sections are assembled, the recesses 11 form a triangular opening to permit of the vibration of the tongue. The diverging walls of the opening formed by the recesses terminate at the inner ends of the longitudinal flat bottom groove 8 and'also approximately at the termination of the curved bottom grooves 7, thus producing an arrangement having the mouth-piece 5co6perating therewith in a manner to increase the efficiency of the operation of the device in that the mouth of the user will not come in contact with the 'mica tongue 9.
In assembling the parts, the tongue 9 has the inner end thereof arranged "in engagement with the shoulders 10 and if desired glue or other adhesive can be used to facilitate the maintenance of the tongue in position, though it is not absolutely necessary. The remaining section is now placed upon the section on which the tongue has been mounted and the two sections held in this position through the medium of the retaining band 3.
In operation the device is placed to the mouth of the user and by blowing through the mouthpiece provided by the longitudinal flat bottom grooves 8, the bottoms of which are also incidentally arranged in divergent relation toward the free end, the air is directed therethrough and acts upon the mica tongue 9, causing the latter to vibrate in the triangular opening formed by the recesses 11 thus producing a sound that closely resembles that of the sound made by a duck,

Althcugh I have shown and described the preferred embodiment I desire to be under:
stood that I am not to be limited to the exact taining but a few simple parts that can be cheaply manufactured and assembled and when assembled can be placed upon the market and sold at a minimum cost.
It will be understood that the above descriptionland accompanying drawingscomprehend only the general embodiment of my inventionand that various minor changes in detail of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made within the scopeof the appended claims and with out sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention.
Having thus fullydescribed my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is V 1. 4. A duck call including a core comprising two semi-cylindrical sections having alongitudinal bore throughout -the length thereof, said sections being tapered toward one end to provide a mouth piece, and provided with a triangular opening terminating at the inner end of the mouth piece, a
tongue mounted between the proximate facesof the sectionsand positioned to vibrate in the opening when air is introduced through.
