One object of the invention is to provide an improved horse shoe which serves to fully protect the hoof and without pressure on the frog.

Another object is to provide clamps of improved construction for securing the shoe to the hoof and render it unnecessary to nail the shoe to the hoof; another object being to provide the shoe with studs to enter the hoof and coact with the clamps in se curing the shoe on the hoof.

The invention consists in theconstruction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly insection, of a horse shoe constructed in accordance with my'invention. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail sectional views.

The horse shoe 1 is flat. conforming to the shape of the bottom of the hoof, and on its upper side presents a flange 2 to bear under and extend around the front and sides of the hoof, the shoe being formed with a depression 3 within the flange which prevents the shoe from pressing on the frog, the depression being formed by a web or bottom 4: which extends entirely across the lower side of the shoe so that the hoof is entirely protected from contact with the ground and from injury by any object on which the horse may step. The rear flange 5 excepting the channels 6 which are between the ends of said flange and rear ends of the flanges 2 and 1 form an outlet for water which may get in the recess between the bottom of the shoe and the hoof.

At the toe and heel of the shoe, in the undersides are dove tail grooves 7 which receive correspondingly shaped heads 8 and detachable calks 9, the said calks being secured in the said grooves bv dove tail blocks 10 which are detachablv fitted in the outer ends of said grooves and are secured in place by screws 11. When any of the calks are worn or broken they can be readily removed relates to improvements in and new ones substituted, thus greatly prolonging the life of the shoe.

The shoe is provided with a toe clamp 12 which is hinged or pivotally connected at its lower front end of the toe of the shoe as at 13 and has an upwardly extending tongue 14 provided with a slot 15, said toe clamp being also provided with an outwardly extending lug 16 at a point a suitable distance from the front end of said slot. 1 also provide a rear clamp 17 which comprises a shield 18 to bear on the front of the hoof and behind the tongue and a pair of longitudinally adjustable metallic binder straps 19 which are adjustably mounted in the ends of the shield by being passed through openings 20 thereof, the rear ends of said binder straps have inturned ends forming lugs 21 to engage in notches 22 near the heel ofthe shoe, the front ends of the said binder straps having outwardly extending lugs 23 connected together by an adjusting bolt 24; which has awinged nut 25. Hence the binder straps of the heel clamp can be adjusted as required to firmly secure the heelof the shoe to the corresponding portion of the hoof. The shield 18' also has a lug 27 which extends outwardly through the slot 15 of the toe clamp and is connected by an adjustable bolt 28 to the lug 16 of the toe clamp so that the heel clamp may be adjusted on the hoof as required.

To prevent the shoe from moving on the hoof I provide the shoe at points near the toe and heel with upwardly extending studs 29, which may be detachably fitted to the shoe and which engage recesses made in the hoof when attaching the shoe thereon.

It will be understood from the foregoing description and by reference to the drawing that my improved shoe may be readily attached to the hoof without the necessity of nailing it thereto and that it may be adjusted as required and that moreover it serves to effectually protect the horses hoof from injury.
