TO aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN Mone-1N, Jr., of Vheeling, in the county of Ohio and State of XVest Virginia, have invented a new and Improved Burglar and Danger-Alarm, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawing and the let- My invention relatesl to the hereinafter-described arrangement of apparatus, operated by electricity, for the purpose heretofore indicated; one part of which is located at the place to be guarded, another part at the place another part connecting the two 'former together.
At the place to be guarded, as, for instance, the vault marked 3 in the drawing, are lo-v cated the pendulum S, and its accompanying clock-work to give it motion; the elastic points T and U, against which thependnlum alternat-ely touches as it swings backward and forward; wire 17 connecting pendulum with the ground; keys-A B and O, D, connected with clock-points T and Uby wires 18 and 19; arm C, which presses against the keys A B and C D, and also against the door or opening. At the place where the danger is to be made battery Z, connected with relays by wires 2l and 25; local batteries A, connected with relays by wires 27 and 29; local magnets M N and 30, and with local batteries by wires 28 and 31; also, the spring clock-wheel l? R, which engages a similar wheel behind wheel O P, and into which the wheel M O engages. The spring-hammer S T engages in the wheel O P, and pendulum G H works in the wheel M O. The former and latter arrangements are connected the one with the other by wires 22 and 23.
The pendulum- S being put into motion by the clock-work when it touches the point T, there is a complete electrical circuit made, thus: from ground in or near vault, through wire 17, pendulum S, point T, wire 1S, key A B, wire 22, relay J K, wire 25, and battery Z. This being the case the relay J K is closed, which brings armature 36 in, thereby closing local magnet F F, which draws the pendulum G I-Ito it, which causes the hammer R S to strike gong V W. As soon as pen lum swings away from point T the circuit broken and armature 36 iiies back, destroyi circuit in local F F, and then pendulum G swings away/,to be drawn to local M N as sc as the other circuit is made by the pendnl S touching point U. The pendulum G H, this arrangement, vibratesin accord with pei ulum S. It is evident that the wires, after leavi pendulum S, can be run all around the si( of the vault, so as to make it impossible disturb it in any place without interferi with them. It is also evident that this z rangement can be so connected with a buil ing as to give notice of fire.
Having thus described the relative arrang ment of the apparatus which compose my: vention, and the operation of the same fort object intended, I claim as my invention, a desire to secure by Letters Patent, the i'ollo ing:
