'1 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, STEPHAN SAATDJIAN, a citizen of the Empire of Turkey, residing at No. 452 South Sixth street, Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Shoe-Heels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a heel formed in upper and lowersections, the upper section beingpermanently secured to the shoe and the lower section being detachable, the said sections carrying respectively interlocking plates.
The invention also consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawing, in which;

In these drawings 1 represents the upper section and 2 the lower detachable section. Upon the upper'section there is secured a thin metallic frame 3 having the outline of the heel, and having at its corner portions interior recesses 4, and its side members are cut away upon their inner faces to form inwardly extending shoulders 5. Said frame also has upon its forward portion an inwardly extending lug 6 the end portion of which is curved to engage the shank of a screw.
The upper portion 1 has formed upon its lower face and adjacent its edges recesses 7 which extend over'the frame 3. It is also provided with a recess 8 to receive the end portion of a suitablescrew or pin 12, which end portion need not be threaded, and which will be referred to more fully hereinafter, the recess 8 being adjacent the inner end of the lug 9.
On the lower -section 2 is secured a frame 9 which is adapted to loosely fit within the frame 3 when the two portions are brought together, and the frame 9 carries ofiset tongues 10 which are adapted to enter the recesses 7 and overlap the frame 3, a portion of the tongues cooperating with the recesses 4 and shoulders 5, respectively.
The underface of the portion or section 2 is provided with a recess or pocket 11 in which the head of the screw 12 normally rests. This screw works through an inwardly extending lug 13 carried by the frame 9 and which rests partially over the lug 6, the latter being offset with respect to the plane of the frame 3, the screw extending into the recess 8 and'engaging the inner end of the lug 6 thereby preventing forward, longitudinal movement of the frame 9 with respect to the frame 3. After the parts are fitted together the lower section is moved slightly rearwardly on the upper section thereby moving the tongues 10 into the recesses and above the frame 3. The screw 12 is then inserted and locks the tongues, as said screw enters the recess 8 and also bears against the lug 6, and thereby prevents any reverse sliding movement of the lower'section upon the upper section; In Fig. 5 is illustrated a'construction in which the screw'is omitted and a spring 14 is secured to the frame 9 and said spring xtends under or beyond the frame 3 and seats in a recess 15 said spring preventing sliding movement of the parts in a direction which would tend to unlock them.
It will be noted that both frames are flat, and that the frame on top of the lower heel section fits loosely and is movable inside of the frame of the upper heel section to move the tongues 10 into and out of locked engagement with the shoulders 5.
In order to release, it is necessary to move the'lower heel section frame longitudinally relative to the upper heel section frame, and this longitudinal movement is prevented either by the screw 12 or the spring 14: as the case may be. 7
That I claim is:
1. A heel, comprising upper and lower sections, a flat open frame secured to the lower face of the upper section, and conforming in external shape to the shape of on the upper section, said last-mentioned" frame having tongues on its outer edges adapted when moved longitudinally relative to the first-mentioned frame to operatively engage the said shoulders, substantially as described.
2. A. heel, comprising upper and lower sections, a flat open frame secured to the lower face of the upper section, and conforming in external shape to the shape of the section, said frame having a plurality of shoulders on its inner edge, and said up per heel section having recesses above the sho-ulders,'a'flat frame secured to the upper face of the lower heel section and fitting loosely and movably within the frame on theupper section, said last-mentioned frame having tongues on its outer edges adapted when"moved longitudinally relative to the first-mentioned frame to operatively engage the said shoulders, and means preventing longitudinal movement of the frames relative to each other, substantially as described.
'3. A heel, comprising upper and lower sections, a flat open frame secured to the lower face of the upper section, and conforming in-eXternal shape to the shape of the section, said frame having a plurality of shoulders on its inner edge, and said up per heel sectionhaving recesses above the shoulders, a fiat frame secured to the upper face of the lower heel section, and fitting loosely and mo-vably within the frame on the upper section, said last-mentioned frame having tongues on its outer edges adapted when moved longitudinally relative to the first-mentioned frame to operatively engage the said shoulders, said upper frame having 'a lug thereon projecting rearwardly from the forward edge of the frame and in a plane above the lower edge of the frame, said lower frame having an opening therein the wall of which registers with the end of the lug, and a screw movable through the opening and adapted to be screwed into the upper heel section and locatedagainst the end of the lug preventing longitudinal movement of the frames relative to each other, substantially as described.
