HOISTING-ROPE-GATCHING CART.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. '7, 1916.
Application filed September 25, 1915. Serial No. 52,640.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERNARD C. HOLT- HAUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Schnellville, in the county of Dubois, State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hoisting-Rope- Catching Carts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in hoisting rope catching carts, and has for its object to so construct a device of this character that the hoisting rope of a hay sling or the like can be quickly caught and operated to raise the hay sling, and quickly released after the hay sling has released its load.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character constructed in such manner that the driver of a cart can operate the hoisting rope without the necessity of leaving the cart.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the cart. Fig. 2 is a fragmentarv side elevation. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 33 ofFig. 2. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4 CL of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a rear elevation of the band. Fig. 6 is a sectional view on line 6-6 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings 1 designates the axle of the cart which has hingedly connected thereto arcuate bars 2, said bars being provided with a plurality of spaced perforations 3, the purpose of which will later appear.
Mounted on the axle 1 is a clip 4 having pivotally connected thereto a clip 5, the same being capable of swinging laterally. The clip 5 is provided with a yoke 6 which supports the pin 7, and to which is pivotally connected the forward end of the bracket 8 which is adapted to swing vertically. The bracket 8 is provided with a bar 9, which has its lower end terminating in a rearwardly and upwardly curved bar 10, which 1s spaced from the upwardly curved bar 11.
to provide a guide 12. To hold the bars 10 and 11in spaced relation a circular band 13 is provided, and has its endsl l fixed to the respective bars, said band having fixed therein a block 15 which is provided with a beveled face 16.
The ends of the bars 10 and 11 terminate in right angularly disposed fingers 17, which are spaced vertically and constitute means for catching the hoisting rope.
To limit the swinging movement of the bracket 8 in one direction a pin 18 is provided and is adapted to be interchangeably engaged in the perforations 3.
In operation the hoisting rope 19 is normally resting upon the ground, and has its free end provided with a head 20 so that when the cart is driven over therope the same wlll pass into the guide 12 formed between the bars 10 and 11, and continued movement of the cart will cause the rope to swing in parallel relation to the bracket 8 owing to the beveled face 16 of the block 15, after which the head 20 will ride over the beveled face 16 and will be caught by the fingers 17. The driver then drives the team until the rope 19 moves the hay sling (not shown) to the proper position, after which the cart is turned so that the head 20 will he slipped from engagement with they fingers, thus allowing the hay sling to return to its loading position. By placing the pin 18 in selected perforations it is obvious that when the cart is turned that the finger 17 will assume such position with respect to the axle 1 that the head can be disengaged at the desired time.
What I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising a movable bracket having spaced.
bars forming a guide, fingers formed upon the rear ends of the bars and adapted to engage a hoisting rope- 2. The combination with a cart, of a bracket pivotally connected thereto, a bar carried by the lower end of the bracket, a band having one end fixed to said bar, a second bar fixed to the band and spaced from said first bar, said bars having fingers formed upon their rear ends, a hoisting rope In testimony whereof, I affix my signahaving a head formedbthereon andbadapted ture, in the presence of two Witnesses.
to travel in the s ace etWeen the ars and to engage betWee n the fingers, said head BERNARD HOLTHAUS' 5 serving to prevent disengagement of the Witnesses:
head when the cart is traveling in a straight J OHN SGHUETTE,
