SUPPORT FOR ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION DEVICES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. *2, rate.
Original application filed August 2, 1913, Serial No. 782,686. Divided and this application filed August 15,
191%. Serial No. 856,946.
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN L. FAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improveside elevational view of the support. Fig.
3 is an enlarged vertical section taken approximately on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in supports for electrical distribution devices, which supports are generally located on poles. I
The subject-matter of this application is a division of an application filed by meAugust 2, 1913, Serial No. 782,686.
The principal objects of my invention are, to provide a comparatively simple inexpensive support which is particularly adapted for maintaining a transformer and fuse boxes in proper position upon a pole to provide a construction which will make it pos sible to standardize the various parts entering into the construction of the support; to provide a support which can be easily and quickly placed in position on a pole with a minimum amount of labor and attaching devices. and which support, while comparatively light in weight, has ample strength and rigidity 'for maintaining the carried parts in proper position. I a
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
As shown in the accompanying drawings, my improved support includes a horizontally disposed arm 10, preferably a flat by means of a through bolt 11 which latter serves as the attaching means for a bracket or arm A located on the opposite side of the pole from said arm 10. The ends of this through bolt are threaded to receive the usual nuts 12.
The lower endof a V-shaped brace 13 is attached to the post a suitable distance below the arm 10 by means of a bolt or screw 13*, and the upper ends of the legs of this brace occupy positions directly against the rear side of the ends of said arm 10.
Formed through the ends of the arm 10 and the upper ends of the legs of the brace 13 are coinciding apertures which receive horizontally disposed studs 14 which are formed integral with the lower ends of curved bolts 15. Formed between the lower ends of these bolts and the studs 1 are shoulders 16 which bear directly against the outer face of the arm 10, and the ends of the studs which project beyond the ends of the brace 13 are threaded to receive nuts 17.
The construction just described provides means for properly locating the curved bolts 15 and also for ri idly connecting the ends of the arm 10 and the upper ends of the brace 13.
The upper ends of the curved bolts 15 carry ordinary glass or porcelain insulators 18 and positioned upon each of said insulators is a horizontally disposed U-bolt 19, the ends of which pass through suitable ears formed on ordinary fuse boxes 20. Thus said fuse boxes are insulated from and properly supported upon the ends of the cross arm 10.
Vertically disposed bars 21, preferably of fiat metal, are provided at their upper ends with hooks 22 which engage over the arm 10 and attached to the lower portions of these bars in any suitable manner is a transformer such as is ordinarily used in electrical distribution.
A support of my improved construction is comparatively simple, comprises a minimum number of parts which are all formed of ordinary commercial shapes, and said parts can be readily assembled or taken apart. The support can be cheaply manufactured, can be easily applied to a pole and serves to support a transformer and fuse boxes in proper relative positions. By making the various parts of my improved support in regular sizes, said supports can be standardized, therebvmaterially reducing the initial cost of installation, as Well as repairs.
It will be readily understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved support can be made and substituted for those herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A support for electrical distribution devices comprising a pole, a cross arm de tachably mounted thereon, a brace extending between the pole and cross arm, said cross arm and brace having registering perforations, an insulator supporting bolt having a reduced end portion extending through said perforations and threaded to receive a nut for detachably connecting thecross arm and brace, and a fuse box sustained by said bolt.
In a support of the class described, a cross arm adapted to be detachably applied to a pole, a i-shaped brace adapted to be detachably applied to a pole, the ends of the legs of which brace engage the end portions of the cross arm, curved bolts, the lower ends of which are seated in the ends of the cross arm and the ends of the brace, and the upper ends of which curved bolts are adapted to receive fuse boxes.
3. In a support of the class described, a cross arin adapted to be detachably applied to a pole, a brace detachably applied to the pole and to the ends of said cross arm, curved bolts, the lower ends of which are seated in the ends of the cross arms and the ends of the brace, insulators on said curved bolts, and fuse boxes detachably applied to said insulators.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiiii; my signature in the presence of two witnesses, this 18th day of July, 191%.
