To al whom it may concern e it known that I, Gnsriiv A. BADER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inEyeglass- Mountings, of which the following is aspecification. This invention relates to eye-glass mountings of the type in which nose-engaging members orclamps are carried byarms or levers projecting rearwardly from the plane of the lenses, and the object of the invention is to provide nose-clamp lovers of novel andimproved form, wherein the sheet-metal of which they are constructed is so shaped, and' has its width so disposed, as to provide with greater facility for bending the levers, at various points, toadjust the position of the nose-clamps in accordance with the peculiarities of the person to whom the glasses are to be fitted. i
To the foregoing! end I employ, in my novel nose-clamp lever an inte ral sheetmetal member shaped and bent in sucha manner as to provide two substantially U- shaped portions, of which the first, lying adjacent the pivotal support of the lever,

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a plan-view, on a greatly enlarged scale, of one-half of an eyeglass mounting embodying the present invention and; Fig. 2 is a perspective view, on a still larger scale, of the nose-clamp lever shown in Fig. 1.
The invention is illustratedas embodied in an eyeglass mounting having the usual rigid bridge 5, which is connected with each lens 6 by means of the usual lens-clip 7 The end-portion of the bridge is provided with the usual vertical pivot 8, upon which the nose-clamp lever has its bearlng.
The nose-clamp lever is formed of sheet metal, which is cut to a suitable pattern and then bent to shape. It has a flat portion 9 in which the sheet-metal lies horizontally, this portion being perforated to receive the Specification of Letters Patent.

The form of the nose-clamp lever above described is such that it lends itself readily to the various adjustments required in devices of'the kind in question. The horizontally disposed U-shaped portion is adapted to have its arms bent toward or from each other, so as to adjust the effective length of the lever, while they may also be twisted slightly to changethe rearward inclination of the nose-clamps. The height of the noseclampsmay be readily adjusted by bending the lever at the vertically disposed U-shaped portion. The width of the sheet-metal in the various parts of the lever lies in planes which render these adjustments easy and tend. to confine the bending to the points where it is most effective.
In addition to the advantages just pointed out, the novel form of thenose-clamp lever has the-further advantage that the vertical U-shaped portion provides a pocket or recess 13 adapted to receive the end of the noseclamp spring. This spring, as illustrated in Fig. l, is of the usual form, having a coiled portion'20 which surrounds the pivot-stud 8. I
which is bent so that it may enter the recess 13. In this manner the spring is connected with the lever, and at the same time the extremity 21 is substantially concealed, and is effectually protected against catching in the the inward swinging movement of the noseclamp and the lever.
1..In an eyeglass-mounting, the combination, with a bridge, and nose-clamps located in the rear. of the bridge, of nose-clamp levers formed integrally of sheet-metal and each comprising a part pivoted to the bridge on a substantially vertical axis, a U-shaped part located close to the rear of the bridge and in front of the corresponding noseclamp and having substantially vertical arms in which the width of the metal is transverse to the length of the lever so that the arms may be twisted about vertical axes to cause the rear ends of the levers to be swung toward or from each other, and a part extending rearwardly from a vertical edge of the rear arm of the U-shaped part and carrying the noseclamp at its rear end, the
