To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY GRUEBER, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at 77 Garnham street, Stoke Newington, London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Glove- Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is an improved construction of a glove stretcher consisting of two half members hinged together and spring controlled, each member being provided with four. half fingers corresponding with those of the other half member in such a manner as to enable the four fingers,

or the four fingers and the thumb, of a glove to be stretched at the same time by expansion instead of only one finger at each operation as with the ordinary type of glove stretchers and a great saving of time is effected in the case of a number of pairs of gloves having to be stretched such as when a half dozen pairs are purchased by the same person and it is desired to stretch all the gloves before their delivery. I am aware that it has been previously proposed to stretch all the fingers of a glove in unison by pneumatic means and by a system of sectional finger members operated by toggle levers, but my invention is of a different and much more simple character.

For the purpose of my invention I employ two plates 1, l, or the like each formed approximately to the shape of a glove, and provided with four fingers 2, and in some cases with a thumb also. The plates 1 and fingers 2 are suitably rounded on the outer face, but are preferably hollowed out or dished on the other or inner face so that each plate 1 forms one member or section in such a manner that by placing the hollow sides of the two members or plates and half fingers together, see Fig. 2, they correspond with each. other so as to fit inside a glove and its fingers when placed therein.

The two plates or members 1 are hinged together and spring controlled in any suitable manner such as shown in the drawings in which two lugs 3 arranged at a short distance apart and having holes 4 are formed on each plate. The two lugs of one plate are fitted between the lugs of the other plate and touch the same, and through these lugs a pin 5 is passed to form the hinge and pivot. A coiled or other spring 6 is placed on the pin 5 with its ends 7 pressing against the handles 8 so as to normally close the finger portions of the stretcher.

The plain ends or handles 8 corresponding to the wrist portion of a glove are slightly apart or separated so that when the glove stretcher thus formed is passed into a glove, the four half fingers 2 of one section may be opened or slightly separated from those on the other section by merely pressing the ends of each section together to overcome the spring 30 as to stretch all the fingers at one operation, the spring causing the half fingers to close together again when the pressure is removed.

The wrist portion or handles 8 of the multiple stretcher may be extended to any convenient length required to serve as handies for use with long gloves which are intended to be buttoned on a portion of the arm.

The wrist portion or handles 8 of the plates or members 1 may if desired be of any desired shape other than that corresponding to the inside of a glove, such as for example in the form of hinged handles, stems or the like for operating the spring controlled finger portions 2, and the glove stretcher may be formed of any suitable material and ornamented as desired.
