Be it known that I, PIETRO DALnssANoRo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Powder- Brushes, of which the following is a specification. v 1
This invention relates to improvements to brushes, and the invention relates particularly to a combined brush and powder dispenser for use by barber's for carrying out certain work.
The object of'the invention is to provide a brush for use primarily for removing the cropped hairs from the face and neck of a patron like any ordinary dust brush.
A further object is to-provide a hollow body and handle in which is stored a quantity of talcum or like powder which is discharged into the brush, bymeans of a perforated base.
A further object is to provide a valve for controlling the passage ofv the powder from the hollow handle to the brush. And a further object is to provide anovel manipulatable mechanism for operating the valve.
I attain these objects by the means set forth in the detailed specification which follows, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing in Which Figure l is an elevational View of the complete device. 'Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section, taken on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view showing the several parts separated. Fig. 4; is a horizontal section, taken on line .l.-4: of Fig. 1; showing the valve operating mechanism, the valve being closed. Fig. 5 is a similar sectional view; showing the valve open. Fig. 6 is a topplan view of the body, taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 3; showing the valve closed. Fig. 7 is a horizontal section, taken on line 77 of Fig. 3; showing the perforations in the brush-head relatively to the bristles.
In the drawing, the brush preferably comprises long bristles 2, which are set in the usual manner in a circular metallic head 3, the said head having its periphery externally threaded, as at at, for attachment to a cylindrical body 5, which is internally threaded at 6 to receive the said head. The bristles 2 are preferably arranged in a circle near the outer limits of the head, thereby leaving the central portion of the head clear. The said Specification of Letters Patent.

The partition 8 of the body 5 is preferably provided with several openings, as 13, and these openings are closed by a rotary valve comprising a number of wings 14, which lie fiat against the partition 8 on the side facing the handle 12, for sealing the said openings.
15 represents a spider which is disposed in thechamber 9 of the body 5. The free ends 16 of the arms of the spider are bent at right angles and are rigidly secured to the bottom sides/of the valve wings 14, and by which the valve is rotated.
17 represents a series of push rods, which are reciprocatable in radial perforations formed in the wall of the body 5. The inner ends of the rods 17 are forked or slotted, as at 18. The push rods are positioned between the spider and the head 8, and the slot of each rod receives a pin 19 which is carried by the corresponding arm of the spider. The outer ends of the push rods 17 are enlarged and constitute push-buttons 20, which project outside of the peripheral surface from the body. When either of the push rods 17 are pressed inwardly by the user of the brush they effect the partial rotation of the valve 1 l-1 l, from the position shown in Fig. 1, to that shown in Fig. 5, for opening the said valve. For greater convenience in operating the valve, I have provided 3 of the push buttons 20, and these are preferably spaced equidistantly around the periphery of the body 5. By this arrangement the push buttons are conveniently accessible to either the thumb or fingers of the operator. When the operator presses inwardly on either of the push buttons, the rods 17 through their engagement with the pins 19 rotate the valve 14l-14 sufiiciently to open the windows 13. After pressure upon the push buttons is relieved, the valve is closed by a spring 22, one end of the spring being secured in a suitable manner, as at 23, to the wvardly in order to effect. the rotation of the valve 1414:. r
My combined dust brush -andpowder disf penser isextremely simple and practicable,
and can be produced at small cost. By its use considerable time and labor may be saved, since heretofore, the dusting of the hairs after each clipping and then the pow dering of the patronsneck ha'vebeen accomplished by separate operations, and by separate means.
It is obvious that some changes or modifications may bexmade of the parts of the device-within the scope defined by the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
