Application filed October 16, 191?. SeriaLNo. 795,589.
To all whom it inay concern Be it known that I, LEO SUNDERLAND, a
subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and resident of Westminster, county ofLondon, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Joining or Bonding the Junctions of Metallic Sheathing or Armoring of Electric Conductors, of which the following is a'specification.
This invention relates to metallic sheathed conductors where the sheathing is squeezed or pressed over the insulated conductors in the course of manufacture, and has for its object to render such metallic sheathing.
1 electrically and. mechanically continuous throughout, and with this object in view the said invention is directed to an eflicient method and means for bonding the metallic sheathing at desired places, such, for instance, as junctions where "theinclosed con ductors are interrupted for utilization of the current, or otherwise. The invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows a metallically sheathed insulated conductor prepared for bonding purposes in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 shows four-two-wire sheathed cables bonded according to'this invention, and in readiness for joint-box attachment; and, Fig. 3 represents a sectional elevation of an eyelet hereinafter referred to.
Referring to the bonding together of the ends of enveloping sheathsinclosing' elec- 'tric conductors ofthe; type seen in Fig. 1, the said metallic sheathing-a is, at the respective junctions, suitably slit and opened out into a connector portion a' as illustrated in .said Fig. 1-. Theflat'extremities a of the sheathing which are to be bonded are then overlapped,.prefera'bly in pairs which butt togethersee Fig. 2-and holes 6.
punched therethroughcommon'to all portions.a'.. Eyelets c are inserted in said holes,
and the top and bottom of the eyelet (oonly the top, or only the bottom) are formed with a cap or cover-d integral or attached,
which in use is pressed. down to close the hole of the eyelet with the object of rendering the bond metallically and electrically stronger.
Having now described my invention,what
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A' joint -for electric conductor casings comprising conductor sheathing members having overlapping connector plates provided with a fastening receiving opening, and a fastening eyelet engaging said opening and provided with a cap member to cover and close the opening. In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature inpresence of two witnesses.
LEO .SIUNDERLAND.
