it known that we, WrLIr. ltlURRAK and Helm-r A. Lesion, citizens of the United States, and residents of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful 1m: provomeuts in Locking-Valves, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in looking valves, and has for itsobject a valve with a locking; means for controlling the passage of the fuel supply from the supply tank to the engine.
A further object of our invention is to provide a locking valve designed to be located on a fuel supply pipe and preferably placed between the fuel tank and the can bureter from which the fuel is fed into an internal. combustion engine, and the device is applicable for automobile engines, motorboats and the like, and the purpose of the valve is to guard against the stealing or" the vehicle when the machine is left idle on the siding and also from destruction by fire in the event of accident.

Referring to the drawings" in detail 7 indicates. an ordinary internal combustion engine, such as used for automobiles and the like; 8 the carburetor, and 9 the fuel supply pipe which leads to the fuel supply tank wherever located on an automobile, motor-boat or the like.
@n the fuel supply pipe 9, we place our improved locking valve, the same being located preferably close to the carburetor and in such posit-ion that access can behad to the same when the hood of the vehicle is raised. The locking valve consists of on ordinary valve 11, properly coupled iuposi tion to the supply pipe, and said'valve is rigidly mounted on a plate lO g-the valve stem which controls the valve mechanism.

I The valve itself is provided with a cap 36, which is firmly secured to the plate 10. The tumbler disk 13, which as before stated is firmly secured to the shaft 19; on the inner face of said disk, is located a pin 13*, this pin is so arranged as to contact with a similar pin 14 located on the center tumbler disk 14, and which'when contacted with will turn the disk 14, which is loosely mounted on the shaft 19, and on the opposite side of the disk 14, is a similar pin 14 which is designed to contact with a like pin 15 located on the face of the tumbler disk 15, which disk is also loosely mounted on the shaft. These two loosely mounted disks are so constructed as to retain their set position while the .shaft 19, is permitted to rotate in either direction; and in this manner the recesses in the periphery of each of said disks are brought in proper alinement by the manipulation of the shaft in order that the projections on the tumblers 12, may seat themselves therein and open the passageway of the valve so that the fluid may enter from.

It will be observed that the disk 13, as shown in Fig. 3, has that portion of its periphery which leads to the base of the rej'cess rounded. The-object of this is, that when desiring to lock the valve and raise the tumblers out of the recesses, the shaft when turned to the right, as viewing Fig. 3, will cause the rounded portion to elevate the tumblers 12, so as to permit them to ride on the periphery. \Vhen this is done and by twirling the combination disk the tumbler disks 13, 14, and 15, will. rotate and the recesses therein become staggered.
The construction of the tumblers and tumbler disks is simple as the tumbler 12, is pivoted to the valve stem and controlled by the action of the spring 16. The tumbler disks 13, 14, and 15 are mounted on the shaft 19, the tumbler disk 13, being fixed thereto while the disks 14 and 15, are mounted loosely on said shaft and' each provided with pins on their faces arranged to contact with each other, so by the rotation of the shaft in the manner of the ordinary combination lock operation brings the disks to their proper position, first one being brought in its proper location and then the next and so on in accordance with the numbers designated on the dial 18.

The operation of our invention is as follows: After the device has been placed in po sition on the pipe and when desiring to open the valve so that the fluid has free passage from the tank to the carbureter, the dial is operated to the )roper numbers bringing the d 15 in such position that the recesses located therein are in proper alinement with the-tooth or projection of the tumbler 12. WVhen in such alinement the spring 16 forces the tumbler into a position as shown by solid lines in Fig. 3, and when ed pq'ftion on the periphery of the disk 13,.
in contact with the projection or tooth of the tumbler 12, raising the same in a position as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3; and by continuing the rotation the recesses in the several tumbler disks become staggered or out of alinement, holding the tumbler 12 in such elevated position at the same time keeping thevalve closed.
Having fully. described our invention what we claim is:
1. A locking valve for internal combus tion engines, comprising a center base plate, a housing'located on each side thereof, a valve mounted on one side of said base plate and to one side of the center, a tumbler mechanism mounted on the 01' posite side of said base plate and secured to the stem of said valve for controlling the valve action and a combination mechanism controlling the tumbler mechanism, substantially as specified.
2. A locking valve for internal combustion engines, comprising a base plate, a valve mounted on one side of said base plate and to one side of the center, a tumbler mechanism mounted on the opposite side of the base plate, a valve stem protruding through the base plate connecting the valve and tumblermechanism, a housing incasing the valve and a housing incasing the tumbler mechanism, substantially as specified.
3. A locking valve for internal c0mbusdisks located centrally through said pipe, a spring for holding the valve in set position when the fuel is cut-0E rotating lockingdisks centrally located, a housing incasing .the same, a combinatibn mechanism mounted on said housing and operating the rotating locking disks which controls the movement of the oscillating tumbler, substantially as specified.
5. A device of the class described comprising a base plate, a valve located to one side thereof, a fuel supply pipe to which said valve is connected, a tumbler operating said valve, a shaft supported in the base plate,- two loose and one stationary tuniblei' disks located on said shaft, a combination disk supported on the housing and connected to the shaft, a second combination disk supported independently of the housing, and a connecting means located between the two combination disks whereby both disks are operated'simultaneously when opening or closing the valve, substantially as specified.
