APPLICATION FILED MAY 27, 1915.

THE COLUMBIA PLANOORAPH co., WASHINGTON, D. c.
ran STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL A. RAUSCH, OF LEIPZIG-GOHLIS, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO THE FIRM OF FORTUNA- WEB-IKE, SPECIALMASCHINENFABRIK, G. M. B. 1-1., 013 STUTTGART-GANNSTATT,
GERMANY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
HIDE-CARRIER FOB BOARDING-MACHINES.
Patented Feb. 22, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL A. RAUSCH, of 13 Roscherstrasse, Leipzig-Gohlis, in the Kingdom of Saxony, German Empire, civil engineer, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hide-Carriers for Boarding-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to leather boarding machines and more especially to the devices for carrying the folded-up hides to be rolled to and fro in these machines.
In order to secure an effective operation of the boarding machines it is important to arrange within the fold of the hide to be boarded a partition plate as smooth and thin as possible. This partition, however, being put under a high stress both as regards rigidity and strength, it has up to today proved difficult to provide a hide carrier fully corresponding to all requirements.
According to my invention the partition proper has the form of a band of steel or a like material, said band being tightly stretched within a bow-shaped carrier and being adapted to be kept constantly tight by means of suitable stretching devices.
In the drawings accompanying this specification the preferred form of a hide carrier according to my invention is shown in side elevation, partly in section.
In the machine frame a, a bow-shaped carrier Z) is fastened. Between its free arms preferably braced by a rod 0 a steel band (Z is stretched. Both ends of the band are provided with suitable mountings comprising screw-bolts g and capshaped nuts h resting against washers z'interposed between them and the arms of the bow. By turning the nuts the band (Z can be stretched'at will.
The bow Z) and rod 0 are preferably made of metal tubing.
I claim 1. In a hide carrier for boarding machines, in combination, a thin and smooth band of strongmaterial and a bow shaped carrier adapted to keep said band in stretched condition.
2. In a hide carrier for boarding machines, in combination, a thin steel band and a bow shaped carrier adapted to keep said band in stretched condition.
3. In a hide carrier for boarding machines, in combination, a thin steel band, a bow shaped carrier adapted to keep said band in stretched condition and means arranged on said band for adjusting it.
4. In a hide carrier for boarding machines, in combination, a thin and smooth band of strong material, a bow shaped carrieradapted to keep said band in stretched condition and a longitudinal stay rod adapted to brace the free arms of said carrier.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CARL A. RAUS CH.
