HYMAN MAIMIN, on NEW YORK, NQY. V
STANDARD-SUPPORT FOR CLOTH-CUTTING MACHINES- To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HYM'AN MAIMIN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Standard-Supports for Cloth-Cutting Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
In cloth cutting machines of the type herein referred to, great difiiculty is encountered in adequately securing the standard of the machine to the base plate. The reason for this is that the standard, carrying at its upper end the heavy motor frame and motor, is subjected in operation to very severe vibrations and these vibrations tend to loosen the connection between the standard and the base plate. This connection is ordinarily efiected by means of screw threads on the lower extremity of the standard cooperating with corresponding screw threads in the base plate. The effect of the vibrations is to so far mutilate the screw threads as to loosen the standard, permitting the edge of the knife, which is carried by the standard, to depart from the straight line of cut and to strike against the edges of the throat in-the throat-plate which is secured to the base plate in front of the standard. This necessitates the substitution of a new standard at considerable eX- pense.
The object of the present invention is to overcome these diiliculties and this is accomplished by insertingbetween the base plate and the standard a nest plate, so shaped that it will receive the throat plate as well as the base of the standard. so that complete registry between the knife guide in the standard and the throat plate is assured.
The preferred form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which I Figure 1 shows the standard inside elevation with the nest plate likewise in side elevation and mounted in the base plate which is shown in section; Fig. 2 is a like front elevation; Fig. 3 is a side elevation partly in section showing the nest plate in section; Fig. 4 isa section on line 44 of Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb, 22, 1916, Application filed October 6, 1915. Serial No. 54,320. I
Fig. ,3, and Fig. 5 shows the nest plate, the two-part throat plate, and the base of the standard.
The standard 1, which may beof any suitable construction, has an extended base 2 in the form of two sectors 3 and 4, of such shape'as to fit, with the base 2, into the nest plate 5 (see Figs. 4c and 5). The 1 standard is secured to the nest plate byv the upwardly extending screws 6 passing through the nest plate and into the base'of the standard. plate are secured to the nest plate by the screws 7. The outer periphery of the nest plate 5 is screw-threaded, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, and these screw threads engage corresponding screw threads in a recess in the base plate.
The arrangement permits the making of the nest'plate of a hard steel which is not suitable for the standard, and it also makes possible the ready removal of the connection between the standard and the base plate. If the engaging screw threads are destroyed by the vibrations, a new nest plate can be substituted for the old. If necessary, the new nest plate may be of slightly larger diameter than the old and new threads may becut in the recess in the base plate.
' By mounting the throat plate in the nest plate, all possibility of a disturbance of the throat plate in the nest plate in front 0 the standard.
2. A standard for a cloth cutting machine, in combination with a nest plate set into the base plate of the machine and screws extending upwardly through the nest plate into the base of the standard to secure the standard to the nest plate, and.
a throat plate in the nest plate in front of the standard. 7
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. HYMAN MAIMIN.
