Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1916.
Application filed September 10, 1915. Serial No. 49,911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O'r'ro RANGNOW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trunks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in wardrobe trunks, and particularly relates to a receptacle for carrying soiled linen in the wardrobe trunk.
The object of my invention is to construct a receptacle which is adapted to be held in a vertical position in a. wardrobe trunk; a further object of my invention is to construct the receptacle so that it will occupy a space in the trunk which is not available for any other purpose.
In the accompanying drawing in which like references refer to like parts; Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a wardrobe trunk illustrating my invention; Fig. 2 is a front view of the follower or garment compressor, showing the fastening devices attached thereto for holding the receptacle upon the compressor; Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line 3-3 Fig. 2; Fig.4 is a front elevation of the receptacle, detached; and Fig. 5 is a vertical section on line 5-5 Fig. 4.
Referring to the drawing, 1 represents a portion of a wardrobe trunk, in which the garments are placed by hanging them on coat hangers, which are suspended from the tracks 2 and 3 secured in the trunk. A compressor consisting of a frame 5, as shown in Fig. 2, is provided to compress the garments against the back wall of the trunk. As the garments are more bulky at the top of the trunk, the compressor frame 5 stands at an oblique angle, as shown in Fig. 1, and my soiled linen receptacle is adapted to occupy the space thus formed at the lower portion of the trunk.
The soiled linen receptacle 6 consists of a back portion 7, made of rigid material and a front portion 8, made of flexible material, secured to the edges'of the back portion 7, thus forming a bag adapted to be compressed when empty and toexpand to accommodate articles which may be placed in the bag.
The receptacle has an opening formed at the top thereof and the edges of the flexible material forming the opening are held in the closed position by fastening devices 10, preferably glove clasps, one of the members of each fastener being secured to the rigid back 7 and the other member being secured to the said flexible material forming the front portion 8.
The receptacle is secured to the compressor frame 5, in the following manner; at the lower portion of the compressor frame is provided a cleat or angle plate 12 into which the lower edge of the back portion 7 of the receptacle is inserted. The upper portion of the receptacle is held by fastening devices 13 and 11 which consist of straps 15 secured to the compressor frame 5, each strap carrying one member of a clasp 16. The other member of the clasp 16 is secured upon the rigid back portion 7 of the receptacle 6. The flexible front portion 8 of the receptacle, when closed, partially conceals the fastening device 16 at the top of the receptacle.
It will be seen that the receptacle may be removed from the trunk by simply detaching the upper fastening devices 16 and lifting the receptacle off the angle plate 12.
The shoe box 20, usually found in wardrobe trunks, can be used with my soiled linen receptacle, as the latter hangs abovethe shoe box, as shown in Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a trunk the combination of a garment compressor adjustably mounted within the trunk, a soiled linen receptacle having a front portion of flexible fabric forming an expansive bag and means for securing the said receptacle to the said compressor.
2. In a trunk the combination of a garment compressor adjustably mounted within the trunk, a soiled linen receptacle having a front portion of flexible fabric forming an expansive bag, said receptacle having a rigid back portion, and means for securing the upper and lower edges of the back portion to the said compressor.
3. In a trunk the combination of a compressor frame, a receptacle having a rigid back portion and a flexible frontportion, I
