APPARATUS FOR CUTTING EMBROIDERY BACKGROUND ALONG AN EMBBGIDERED EDGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Applicatien filed May 18, 1911. SerialNoLQfiSJOl.
To all whom z'tmay concern: r 7
Be it known that I, ALoIsTsoHnRNma subject of the Emperor .of Austria, residing at Rorschach, Hafenplatz, have invented new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Apparatus for Cutting Embroidery Background Along an Embroidered Edge; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. f
This invention relates toa device forcutting embroidery back-ground along an embroidered edge by means of a cutting apparatus in which the cutting part is a knife blade which, together with a counter-part,
which allows only the background to pass, the knife blade being posi tively connected to the counterpart-so that it can be reciprocated and in such a manner that the slot always retains its width.
In the accompanying drawing, a construction according to this invention is illustrated by way of example. 7
In the said drawing Figure 1 shows it in front elevation, Fig. 2 in plan, Fig. 3 a back view, Fig. d anend view, partly in section of Fig. 3,'Fig. 5 is a section on line AB of Fig. 1, Fig. 6 a top view of the device as mounted on a table, and Fig. 7 a section on line CD' of Fig. 6.
1 is a plate secured to a table or elsewhere,
provided at its left hand end, in Fig. l, with a vertical lateral wall 2 to which are secured two horizontal guide pins 3 and 4: of circular cross-section, parallel to each other and to the plate 1. The plate 1 is moreover provided with a front wall 5 at a right angle to the same. On the guide pin 3 is mounted in an adjustable manner a knife carrier 6 to which is secured as a cutting part a knife blade 7. To the knife carrier 6 is secured a pin 8 to which is pivoted a connecting rod 9 and secured to the pin 8 a sleeve 10 loosely surrounding the pin 4:. The connecting rod 9 is connected to any rotatable spindle 11 by means of a crank 12. To the plate 1 is pivoted a ledge 13 pressed against the front wall 5 by means of a spring 14:.
Switzerland,
19 in such ber relatively to increase or diminish the width of the slot,',
On the side 13 is laterally mounted a projection 15 passing through the front wall 5. at the. end. Against the said bevel rests the tapered lower end 16 of aset screw 17, screwed into a lateral edge and beveled downward 18 of the lateral wall '2. The set screw 17 forms with the projection 15 a fine adjustment device for the slot 19 formed by the knife'blade 7 and the ledge 13 forming the I counter-part. The width of the slot is such that it allows only the embroidery background 20 to pass, but not the raised embroidery 21 and said slot, can be adjusted exactly to suit the difierent thickness of the fabric of the embroidery back-ground.
The working of the device is as follows:
The fabric 20 preferably stretched laterally 5 is guided through the slot" as shown in Fig.
a manner that the knife engages in the raised edge 21 of the embroidery. A reciprocation of the knife blade due to the rotation of the spindle 11, brings about the cutting, along the embroidered edge, of the embroidery V bacl -ground supplied continuously in the longitudinal direction of the knife blade. 7
Hav ng now particularly described andascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be per ormed, I declare that what I claim is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a reciprocablecutter, stationary opposing member substantially verti cally disposed and mounted longitudinally thereof and forming a slot therewith of uniform width through which the background of the embroidery is passed, means to reciprocate the cutter parallel to and lon gitudinally of the opposing member.
2. A device of the character described comprising a reciprocable cutter, a stationary support, an opposing member mounted longitudinally of the cutter and forming a slot therewith of uniform width through which the background of the embroidery is passed, means to swing the opposing memthe cutter and support to means to reciprocate the cutter parallel to and longitudinally of the opposing member.
3'. A device of the character described, comprising a pivoted fabric supporting member, a cutting member parallel theretoand forming therewith a longitudinal slot,
Patented Feb. 15,1916.
means to reciprocate the cutter parallel to the supporting member, and means to move the free end of the latter toward and from the cutting member.
e. A device for cutting embroidery background along; the embroidered edge, comprismg a stationary member, a knife carrying member movable longitudinally of and parallel to the stationary member, a knife blade mounted on the carrying member, justable member mounted on the stationary member cooperating; With th blade to form a slot through which the background of the mbroidery is passed, and means to adjust said adjustable member to maintain a minimum Width of slot.
5. A device for cutting embroidery background along the embroidered edge, comprising a stationary member, a support on the latter, parallel thereto, a knife carrier slidably mounted on the support, means to reciprocate the carrier on the support, a kniie blade on the carrier projecting beyond the edge thereof, and a fabric supporting member pivot-ed at its lower edge on the stationary member and vrojecting above the latter and forming With the knife edge a longitudinal slot. through which the background of the 'fabric is passed.
6. A device for cutting embroidery background along the embroidered e V comprising a stationary member having a lateral end wall, a support mounted in the latter, a knife carrier mounted on the support and movable parallel to the stationary mem- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for an. ad
' her, means to reciprocate the carrier on the support, a fabric support hinged to the stationary member, and pro ectmg above the same, an ad uSting screw in the end Wall having a beveled end adapted to engage a means to yieldlug on't e fabric support, mgly hod the lug in contact with thescrew end a knife-blade mounted onthe car- I rier coii-perating with the fabric support to form an adjustable slotthrough which the background of the fabric is passed.
7. in a device of the character described, a stationary opposing member, a reciprocable cutter cooperating with said member to form slot of uniform minimum operating Width, and means to adjust the opposin member to var Y the minimum 0 3erat1n Wiiltll of slot.-
8. in a device of the character described;v
an opposing member, a knife reciprocable with respect to said member and formingtheren'ith a slot of uniform Width under cutting conditions, means to move said memher to adjust the minimum. Width of said slot for cutting different thicknesses of fabric, and, means to permit said member to move and widen said slotunder non-cutting conditions. In testimony that l as my invention, .l have signed my name in presence or tvvo subscribing Witnesses.
